So...after 27 hours of travelling we finally arrive at our first stop, Beijing! On first impressions me and danielle found it a little strange (charlotte of course has been before), still didn't really feel like we were here and the smoggy atmosphere didnt exactly help with the already unclear heads. However, we checked into our hotel (danielle is staying on a matress on the floor hahahaha) and headed out to get familiar with our new surroundings with our tour guide Charlotte 😊

A few things to mention....we have actually been referred to as 'aliens' on the immigration form on the plane, and the looks we got around the city confirm our new identity in this city. One set of girls even fell into fits of giggles at our sheer appearance...that was nice. However we walked down Wangfujing Road (main shopping area), had a traditional chinese meal of McDonalds, a traditional chinese drink...starbucks, then made our way to the very impressive Tianamen Square. For those of you less interested in the site seeing and more the stories we have to tell then here's one for you...Hayley nearly threw up when she saw one of the many chinese delights available on the street stalls (wiggling scorpion, cockroaches, sea horses etc on a stick, deep fried and squealing).

Around Tianamen Square we saw the 'Forbidden City' from the outside (looking inside tommorrow), the 'People of China's Museum' and the surrounding monuments and off buildings to the city. We stayed as long as possible before tiredness smacked us in the face and decided to head back to the hotel. Eventful. We got lost and did what could only be described as a MASSIVE detour which took us miles around the city, BUT it did mean we got to see some of the back streets of Beijing, the little local cafes and the numerous 'public toilets'. AVOID. NASTY.

Tommorows plans include a more in depth look into the cultural sites, and hopefully we will indulge into some of the more traditional chinese cuisine, and maybe avoid being stared at so much.....

Will update soon
