Roof terrace of Kelly's Courtyard
Hello

For our final day in Beijing we decided to chill out a bit, after a week of pretty fast paced sightseeing we thought it would be best. The first couple of pics are of the roof terraced area of our hostel.

We checked out of the hotel about 11, left our bags in the lobby and took a walk to Tian'anmen Square. On the way there we got talking to a Chinese man and his son, he worked for the government but had travelled all over with his job, most of Asia and has lived in Germany and UK for a while! We pretty much walked and talked for about 30 mins, when we departed me and the son exchanged email addresses and the dad said if we were ever in Beijing we could come to dinner at his house, good times!

Tian'anmen Square is the largest city square in the world, it hosts a lot of events for the Chinese, the 60th anniversary will be held in the square - it is all set up for this (1st October) and security was very tight. You can only get in to it through 1 tunnel and you have to put your bag through an x-ray machine! Soviet Russia influence can been seen around the square in the buildings and structures.

In between Tian'anmen Square and the Forbidden City was a park - ZhongShan Park. We spent a few hours there sitting basking in the sunshine, then went for a bite to eat then picked up our stuff from the hotel. During the day, 2 different chinese guys wanted there picture taken with me - wierd. I dont think some of the Chinese tourist in Beijing have ever seen a white guy before!

We headed to the train station to get the overnight train to Xi'an. This was an experience on its on, we got a taxi about 7ish and traffic was terrible. We finally got to the train station and it was packed, like Dunoon on Cowal Games. We got through various security checks (more x-ray machines) and got to the waiting room. Everything was pretty much in Chinese but some of the boards were in English. It was pretty straight forward to follow what was going on but still not 100%.

We had booked tickets for a soft sleeper, private compartment that sleeps

This gave me the dodgiest stomach i have ever had, think dumb and dumber x 5. It is probably one of the most embarrassing things that have ever happen to me, but i cant talk about it. Think toilet that is shower cubicle will shower curtain and no lock, behind an internet pc (with someone on it) in the middle of a lounge - bad times
