one month in

so, the first month of my stay in china is almost over. it has gone by so fast, and i am sad to see my friends leave. i will miss carolyn and hayley a lot and am glad we became such good friends while they were here. we plan on having chinese dinners at school so we keep in touch and practice our chinese... and eat!

tonight we are going to have kao ya (roast duck) for dinner to celebrate carolyn's birthday, which isn't until she is back in the states but we want a reason to celebrate. this weekend we are traveling to suzhou, a small city outside of Shanghai. it is renowned for its beauty, often refered to as heaven on earth. it has many beautiful gardens and traditional southern architecture. i am excited to go visit, especially because i am applying for a language scholarship with the state department there for next summer.

the hostel we are staying at is called Mingtown Suzhou International Youth Hostel, its in the heart of the old part of the city.
