Our first Khmer mealOur first Khmer mealOur first Khmer meal

Clockwise from top left: My fav amok fish, chicken green curry and banana blossom salad.
Khmer cuisine is not as well-knowned as Thai and Vietnamese cuisine, but definitely taste as good.

My favourite Khmer dish is Amok fish. It's fish cooked with coconut milk, wrapped in banana leaves, taste something like otak. Had it for almost every dinner in Siem Reap 😊 Another dish that I enjoyed was fish sour soup, a fish soup cooked with ginger, lemongrass and pineapple. A bit like tom yam soup but without the spicyness.

When we were in Battambang, we had all 3 meals at the White Rose cafe. They have a few hundred dishes on their menu and their fruit shake and fruit salad are superb. Tried almost all kinds of shake available, durian, chiku, jackfruit and mango etc etc.... And to my Team Hanoi, remember the super yummy beef stew with baguette we had in a tiny hole-in-the-wall stall? I had a similar beef stew with bee hoon at the White Rose cafe. So nice that I had it twice despite having hundreds of other dishes to choose from. And having been a french colony last time, baguettes there are fantastic too! Fresh, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Ngiam ngiam...

Team Hanoi, doesn't it remind you of the Ah Peh's dessert stall in Hanoi?

Other than the regular food that we can easily stomach, there's also fried crickets, cockroaches, spiders and bugs that I can't recognise.
