Phnom Penh

We arrived in Phnom Penh two nights ago. It's rainy season here, so guess what??? We were welcomed with a crazy tropical storm with lots of lightning and rain. Some of the streets were even flooded, but that doesn't stop the insane traffic. There doesn't seem to be any real lanes that people follow and there is a system of flashing your headlights and honking your horn that seems to work somehow. And when you cross the street it's like taking your life into your hands! Take a deep breath and step into the flow of traffic and somehow all the scooters, tuk-tuks and cars will miss you!

Yesterday we saw the majority of major sights in the city. We went to Wat Phnom (the temple on the hill that the town is named for), the national museum, the Russian market and the Royal Palace. We walked most places and took a tuk-tuk for a while. The tuk-tuk drivers are so funny. They're always trying to secure your business and they have amazing memories. If you tell them "maybe later" they will follow you around the city and find you later saying "now you go for a ride" Needless to say, you need to use a lot of vague language with them!

Today we went to see another temple and received Buddhist blessing. It was so peaceful and beautiful there. We ate lunch at a NGO restaurant that helps street kids. The food was amazing!

We're just getting ready to head out for a tough afternoon at the Killing Fields and the torture and detention center. I'm sure it will be sad. I'll write more tonight when we get back and add some pictures.
