After Phnom Penh we went to Sihanoukville on the south coast of Cambodia. It took only a couple of hours to get there.
The first hours we stayed at a simple bungalow 40 Min. away from the City on a lonely beach with only a few other guests. But one hour after it got dark the electricity broke down and according to the reception of our Hotel it would last normally until the next morning.
As there was nothing to do and we did not like the idea to go to bed at 7pm, we packed our backpacks in the dark and left our Bungalow, 30 Min. later we were sitting in a huge and beautiful Hotel room. Such is travelling, your luck can change al the time.
Unfortunately we could stay in this room only for one night. On the next morning we had to change to a much smaller room without AC and only with a Fan. On the next night there was an electricity shortage again. It is not funny to lie sweating in bed when there is no wind at all and loud techno musik is coming from the beach all the night.
On the
next morning we were glade to leave this city.
Now we can say that we also have been to Sihanoukville but we will definitely not come back. Okay I never have been a beach boy and hanging around on a beach is very boring specially when there are so many other new places to see.
By the way the beach was crowded and littered with plastic rubbish. A problem someone can find probably in every developing country. And if you don't see the plastic rubbish you probably can smell it when they burn it. I am not sure if this is really better.
Our next destination was Kampot, a place we liked much more. In Kampot we stayed at the Hotel "Mea Culpa" run by a nice English guy. I do highly recommend this place but someone should book in advance.
Unfortunately after one night we had to leave the hotel. But it was no problem finding a new place to stay.
Kampot is a very small city and you need only a few hours to see everything. The main attraction is the River front and the early morning fish market. We liked the atmosphere of the city, it
is relaxing and the people are nice.
We met 2 British Gentlemen (father and son) there, who we saw so often that we already started to make jokes about it.
"Do you belong to MI6 and are you on a secret mission ?"
we frankly asked them.
They denied our question but of course what different answer we could have expected ?
But my suspicious rose again for some unknown reason when they presented themselves and mentioned theirs names: "Bond" and "James".
As Ana is going to stay 10 weeks in London this summer, I thought it would be a good Idea to improve German British friendship and have some beer together.
But I had no success with very cheap excuses they avoided to have a beer with us.
Now I think, maybe they were all the time on duty (secret mission ?),
they don't like beer (maybe they have never tried Cambodian beer or Beerlao)
or
there is simply no need for any improvement of German British friendship at all.
Even we had not the chance to talk a lot with them, it was easy to notice that both are very nice.
As
the father works in Phnom Penh already for several years it was very interesting to talk with him.
I will not forget them.
But there is one more person we will not forget. Her name is Natalia and she comes from Colombia and what it makes even more interesting is the fact that she lives in Madrid, a country we love and a city we like to see again.
So Natalia hurry up and come back home (to Madrid of course!) we want to see your city again!
It was so good to speak and to hear Spanish again, specially when it comes from Columbia. For me the Spanish they speak in Columbia is simply the best. I love it!
You don't meet many people from Spanish speaking countries so it is always something special if you meet one.
I like Kampot and as it was our last place in Cambodia I felt sorry to leave it. It is one of my favourite places in Cambodia and I like to come back.
