As we approached the village we left paved roads behind and traveled along dusty red roads through small villages where children waved and shouted hello. We thoroughly enjoyed the journey out from the capital through the Cambodian countryside and watching buffalo in the rice paddies and cows freely roaming the road. Our home for the night was a wooden house on stilts with no electricity and a “happy room” at the bottom of the garden. We had dinner at an eco-tourism centre which provides employment for the local minority groups. Vinny worked up an appetite taking part in a volley ball game. After the meal we joined the locals for a spot of dancing, in a circle around a table to a karaoke DVD, strange but fun. On the way to the facilities before bed, we were amused to find a cow and her calf warming themselves by a fire. Cambodia at its best!
