SIHANOUKVILLE - April 1 - 8
The 4.5 hour bus ride to Sihanoukville was pretty uneventful. Got there around 5pm so of course the guesthouses on Serendipity Beach that we checked out were full. We stayed at one place just for the night then moved to Monkey Republic Guesthouse which wasn't too far a walk to the beach. Actually the bungalow was pretty decent for the price ($6): 2 bed, fan, bathroom, porch. The first day we hit the beach. The water was kinda gross cause it wasn't really refreshing but felt like taking a bath in warm water. Serendipity beach is packed with tourists, beggars, woman selling anything from massage, fruit, lobster, sarongs, as well as kids pestering beachgoers to buy bracelets, paintings, and fruit. The kids at first are entertaining and cute but after awhile it gets very annoying. You don't really have time to close your eyes and relax, or get into your book without one of them coming up to you and saying "buy my bracelet. buy my painting."
Me: "No."
Kid: "Why?"
Me:"Cause I don't want one."
Kid:"Later you buy from me."
Me:"Maybe."
Kid:"No maybe. Maybe sure."
Thinking back now we should have
checked out the other beaches in the area. The first day was a full day of tannage and oh was there some burnage......on my arse! 😞 I put some damn sunblock on but that area hasn't seen the light of day in quite some time so to be expected. No tannage for me the next day. I opted for the shade. Food wise it kinda sucked because there are no food vendors around except in town. Only guesthouses were around the near vicinity. I mean I am always up for going into town (walking, moto, tuk tuk) but the lazy asses I was with were okay with eating at guesthouses. I was to a point then went and did my own shit. I got to try out my very bad Khmer when ordering. Ha that was fun. "Cha me bon lie".....fried noodles with vegetables. We did the island tour for $10 which included snorkeling and going to Bamboo Island where they provide lunch. It so was not worth it. Snorkeling would have been nice if my goggles didn't leak, I wasn't stung by jelly fish, and if there were cool things to look at. Bamboo island was pretty nice. A
lot quieter particularly on the other side of the island, a 15 minute walk. It would have been cool to stay overnight but too expensive. Lunch consisted of roasted fish, salad, and a baguette.....pretty decent because I was expecting just baguette and cheese or whatever. I do not like doing tours because of the time restrictions and no freedom. Let's just say I wasn't too impressed with this tour so I was a little iffy about doing the Ream National Park tour for more money ($15). I didn't end up doing it. Krissy and Max appeared to have hooked up because one night Max (whom I'm sharing a bungalow with) didn't come home one night after drinks with Krissy. I went to bed early that night cause I wasn't feeling too great. Krissy had her own bungalow cause she was staying longer than us. Hahaha I didn't mind and it was interesting to see the dynamics between the two of them afterwards. Not knowing them both, one may think they were actually a couple, and later after talking with Krissy she was very annoyed with Max and his clingyness. Ha. Why can't guys just fuckin' chill. Just because you have
a little fun one night doesn't mean anything unless it's discussed of course......majority of travellers are not looking for relationships or even if one night happens doesn't mean things will continue as long as you are traveling together. Now I am not speaking from experience 😊 but just what I saw between those two and from Krissy and my girlie chats.
After my ass healed up a bit I dared the sun again so I can work on my tannage. I thought I did pretty good for the remaining sun days I had. No more burns just browning. Didn't swim much cause the jellyfish were in the shore waters the last several days. It was weird. I wonder if it was because of the recent rainfall the last 3 nights or the tides or who knows. But it was freaky being in the water with them. One afternoon, we all went for the Seeing Hands Massage by the blind. It was $4 for an hour. It felt pretty damn good. I did some shopping, boughts me a skirt (yup you heard me😉), flip flops (yup you heard me😉), and a pair of shorts. So this was a very expensive
week. I spent 5 days too long in Sihanoukville. I was ready to leave. I was going with or without Max, who said before the hookup with Krissy, that he was going to leave with me. Krissy was hoping. Anyway. I left a day before he did. Krissy was staying for another 6 or 7 days before she headed back to South Korea. I will miss that crazy bitch. Hehehehe.
I met this Italian dude the night before leaving for Kampot, who was also heading to the same town. We decided to meet up early the next morning to take a shared taxi, and hopefully negotiate a better deal than $5 with 7 people in a Toyota Camry (5 people in back, 2 people in passenger seat).
