Day 24
We slept in until 9am today then down for a hearty breakfast. We then ventured to the roof top pool. The infinity pool was amazing with the views all along the Mekong, pure heaven. A feeling of peace even though below was bustling with people and traffic. There was a jacuzzi, well it would be rude not to! The bubbles were great therapy for Lesley's arm. We sun bathed for a short while but whilst hot it was cloudy. It would have been perfect had it not been for 3 young lads from London who brought the 3 girls (workings girls I'd say!) who they picked up last night. It was cringe worthy. Nearly noon so we decided to get ready to go out. Taxi booked for 8.30am tomorrow as flying to Siem Reap. My last destination of this trip.
We headed straight to Costa coffee. Lesley is having caffeine withdrawals and it is my favourite place for coffee. We intend to visit the national museum, and Russian market today.
National museum of Arts has many Kyhmer sculptures, many excavated from Angkor. It was a very interesting museum but I'm a bit confused between Hindu and Buddhism. I've
learned much about the different gods but there are so many. Lesley has givens a lesson on the birth of Hinduism - Vishna, Shiva and Brahma!! With the help of YouTube....
With Buddhism It depends on what you are praying for to which god you pray to. For example if you wanted to pray for your crops to grow you would pray to one God. If you were praying for a safe trip by boat you would pray to another. Anyway,That's my homework for my flight home.
There was a fortune teller so for $1 I had my fortune told. He read both my palms. I had lots of M's and N's which means I am going to be well known in what I do and am going to have a property and prosper. But to watch my spending. He also said I'd travel! Lesley's was similar but she has no link between her head and heart and he said stop being obstinate !
We decide iced tea and coffee was next whilst we checked our plans. We still wanted to go to the Russian market. We haggled with a Tuk Tuk driver down to 3 $.
It was much further than we thought. I didn't mind as I love Tuk Tuks. It's so exciting being in the traffic. If I lived here id definitely wear a face mask as most of the locals do. You can feel you've breathed in the fumes. I did wear mine whist on the motorbike and a bit in Saigon.the trip gave us the opportunity to see a new side of the city we hadn't seen. The independence monument, when Cambodia gained independence from France. We arrived at the market quite late and some of the stalls were closing. We knew what we wanted to buy so got to it haggling like pro's. The stalls were very close together just like all the markets we've been to. It can be quite claustrophobic. Job done. Back in a tuk tuk we headed back to town to have dinner. It was nearly 6 and must have been rush hour as there was a lot of traffic. On the river esplanade we passed people exercising to music. It does seem to be an Asian thing - to exercise collectively outdoors before and after work.
We're dropped off near our coffee shop Browns so
decide to catch up on blogs and sort out our "kitty" before dinner.
Walking to find a restaurant we passed the night market. Each night it had been closed. Tonight it was open and there were live performances. Girls in traditional dress dancing. Men singing love songs, it was nice. Made a couple more purchases of course!
Good choice for dinner. Lesley chose. It was like Asian tapas. We ordered too much though. Lesley couldn't manage it but my stomach is a bottomless pit I managed it all!
We strolled to our hotel stopping for an iced minted lemon tea in the corner cafe and sat listening to live music. Lovely. Back to the hotel for more tea on the balcony. Shower then bed.
