Y llegamos a Camboia.
So we arrived to Cambodia. A small country in between Thailand and Vietnam. A brief visit but a shocking one. The very best and the very worst of human history can be found in this tiny country: The amazing Angkor temples and the horrible khmer rouge history. After going across one of the most corrupt and slowest borders in the world we reached Siam Reap, the back door of the Ankor temples.
Now a days only the skeleton of the Khmer empire capital remains. The Khmer empire stretched from Myanmar to Vietnam and between the IX and XII centruies it boasted a population of 1 million peapole at a time when London was just a little town of 50000 people. Ankor Wat, the world largest religious temple, is simply blowminding. But good things don't last forever and so after a day wandering around in between temples we arrived to Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh. The witness of one of the darkest pages in human history. Pol Pot, the public face of the Khmer Rouge revolution (so called communist maoists, though they were closer to nazi fascism) reached power in 1975 after years of a bloody civil war. As soon as the Khmer Rouge grasped power, they started a terrible genocide against their own people. In 3 years they killed over 2 million people, they closed down hospitals, schools, forcefully abandoned cities, they burnt down books and normalized violence with the aim of creating a peasant-dominated, agrarian cooperative society. The end result was: the creation of exterminium camps as the Killing fields, the formation of torture centres as the number 21 prison and a
Figuras de Ankor wat
Todon el edificio esta tallado muy minuciosamente con este tipo de figuras country which 30 years later is still trying to come to terms whith this horrible nightmare. The Khmer Rouge, which at the time where supported by the current Cambodian's king and the american CIA, left behind this terrible legacy which has been strangely bad published internationally.
So after 6 days in this country full of inequalities, corruption, poverty and the very best and the very worst of human history, we decided to continue with our trip towards Vietnam.
