cambodian family on one bike Hello I have done a lot since my last blog and at the moment I am in a boring town called battambang waiting for tomorrow when I will be crossing the border into Thailand so I will update you all with what I have been doing.
After a very long bus journey we arrived in siem reap and found ourselves a good hotel with a good location a bit of negotiating on mine and mika’s side and we where happy. The big reason for going to siem reap was for the Angkor temples. The Angkor temples come with a lot of hype in terms of being the worlds most amazing historical man made marvel and it lived up to the hype and more. To be honest man made architectural historical buildings are not my top priority of interests but you can not help but appreciate and become interested and enjoy these man made marvels. we wanted our tuk tuk driver to just drop us outside ankgor wat then we said we would walk around the small route of temples and meet him back at angkor wat, when we said this he nearly fell on the floor larding suggesting that we
would not be able to walk round because it was to far. We first thought he might be saying this because he wants the money but he said that know one has ever suggest that to him and he was just looking at us like we are crazy so we agreed for him to drive us and thank god we did because it was way to far to walk round all the temples.
We decided to get a guide for the angkor wat temple as we just thought we would appreciate it more and we felt it would be like watching a sport without knowing the rules going around the temple not knowing the history or anything about it, plus it was very chap anyway.
it’s hard to explain but anyone who has ever been there will recommend you go because it is just one hell of a amazing place, my favorite temple was the jungle one it had all the same ancient ruins except they had massive trees growing out of them it was amazing to see nature and buildings entwined with each over, the tuk tuk driver proudly mentioned that the film tomb raider was shot in
that temple. We spent the whole day there and at the end we spent time with a family who live in the jungle and had lunch their which was really good and only cost 1 dollar instead of 4 dollars which is what you will pay for the restaurants in Angkor.
Like I mentioned before it’s hard to explain why this place is so amazing but I went their with an open mind and came away having spent a really good day their, having the history explained to you about the temples did help in giving me a better understanding of why it’s so amazing, I would recommend anyone no matter what your interest are to go their.
the next day we left siem reap we decided to change up our plans slightly and go on a boat trip to battambang, the boat trip was great fun it took a long time and cost more than the bus but we did not mind because it was a nice day and it was something different. The river consisted of overgrowth that you had to dodge when on top deck and the whole area was basically under water and at
times the trees and plants where so over grown that the river had no path got to see some animals in the wild monkeys to name a few. also my favorite bit were the families that live in this environment that looked completely like no one could live in. they have houses that are raised up by sticks above the river bed and use boats to get everywhere, the whole district is just trees plants and water so it was amazing to see people living in this area, all houses differ in size but most I noticed had a tv, don’t ask me how it works. It was just amazing to see these little communities that live on the river and are completely surrounded for miles by water with no dry land in sight. I and mika had a joking conversation that these people where ahead of time because this is what England will look like after global warming has reached its peak.
Looking forward to spending my birthday weekend on the north east coast island of ko samet in Thailand, sounds like a really fun a beautiful place to be. Tomorrow will consist of a long day of
traveling and border crossing speak to you all once I have spent some time in Thailand.
