It's been a little over 4months for me in the Golden Land Myanmar and I am liking the place here very much, though establishing communication for me with local people is a problematic as most people don't understand & speak English properly but still I find the people here very honest, helpful and simple.
So after 4 months I finally decided to go around the country on my weekend's or holidays and explore it and which gives you relief and a feel of fresh breath from the daily corporate world.
It was Christmas eve and on the same day I suddenly decided to travel and enjoy by Christmas outside Yangon and my choice of destination was Ngwe Saung or ChaungTha Beach both of them are within 250kms from the Yangon City and approx 6-6.30hrs travel time by the Express Bus Service.
My luck was with me and I got one Delax Room sea facing available at New Chaungtha Resort for one night (with early check-in) and which includes breakfast(2 times..due to early check-in),hi-tea, evening snacks and dinner and one hour of free flow of beer in-between 4-5pm in the evening and this entire package was casting me USD115 and
yes it was a bit expensive as the local were getting the same package at USD80 but we can't really complain on this as most of the developing countries across the world have different tariff rate for locals and foreigners. I requested my colleague Khant to get the hotel room blocked for me and she did it for me and also she helped me to arrange by express bus ticket in the last moment in the holiday season.
So finally on 24th Dec I reached the express bus hub outside the Yangon Central Station at 8pm and boarded the bus and to my surprise I was the only one boarded the bus from there and the bus started at 8.30pm and travelled through the different Yangon city roads and pick up points to pick up my copassengers and within an hour I found apart from two seats all seats are occupied. I was the only foreigner on board rest all were local people mostly consisting of group's of university frndz, family or couple. Around 9.30pm we left from the city of Yangon to our destination Chaung Tha beach.
It was nice bumpy ride through the Myanmar highway which is
mostly single lane but maybe some day in the future these highways will become 4-6 lane highway and which might reduce the travel time by another 1-2hr. We had two stops on the way to ChaungTha one around 0030hrs in the morning for food break for 30min and another around 0215hrs in the morning for 5 min for refueling and a toilet break.
After all the hustle and bustle of the Highway I finally reached ChaungTha at 4am in the morning and was dropped at the door step of my hotel. I quickly checked in my room and went of the sleep for few hours as I couldn't sleep well in the bus due to the bumpy ride for the road conditions. So I woke up around 8.30am in the morning and discovered no power supply in the room and later it was discovered being in a remote place from 7-12 the power supply is off and again from 3-5.30pm the supply is off.
I quickly done with my breakfast and the choice available for breakfast was fried rice, noodles, fired fish balls, sausage and chicken and with choice of juice and egg and then went to the beach and found
it was quite a clean beach with some reasonable tourist few small shops selling coconuts, beer and water etc. Also noticed few water sports activities stuff like banana boat, jet skii and speed boat was also present on the beach and you can also hire a bi-cycle of 2000mmk for one hour to ride urself through one end of the beach to another end.
I figured out my hotel organise diving and snorkeling package and I was interested for it...but this time it was bad luck for me as they said they minimum require 6 person to conduct the tour but they can do it for me alone if I m ready to pay the charges for 6 pax so I decided to drop the plan of it and decided to take ride in a bi-cycle in the beach.
I came back to the resort and had couple of beer and each beer costed me around 3200mmk and the rate is actually very cheap as the same beer cost 2500mmk in a restaurant in Yangon. I spent some time in the hotel swimming pool and had my lunch which costed me 4000mmk and I ordered a sea food fried rice.
Enjoyed the evening with some beer and the event which the hotel had planned for its in-house guest and njoyed myself a lot.
When woke up next morning at 6am I was feeling upset that I have to leave in next few hours but promised the place and myself for a visit in the future and started the journey back to Yangon at 10am due to bad traffic condition reached back the city at 6pm.
Myanmar was closed for tourism till 2012 and not much of the people knows about it's tourism industry but slowly and slowly the tourism Industry is going up and I will travel the country whenever I will get a chance and will keep sharing it through my words which might not be as attractive as other post's but it's a small try to share my experience.
