Mom and cub!
Here is one to chew on: An hour of WiFi is $5.00

Pokea suggested that we return this morning to where we saw the leopard sleeping in the tree. I agreed since she had cubs and may not have travelled too far over night. It was an hour and 40 minute drive back to the tree. Just as we arrived mom and the cubs were on the ground moving back towards the tree. We watched for about 30 minutes. More and more vehicles arrived. Pokea said "let's go look for cheetahs and lions" I said "where there are less people?" He just smiled.

So off we went into the center of the park. Between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. when we returned to the main track we encountered just three vehicles. During this time we found two cheetahs, three adult male lions, five females, and 6 cubs. Also found the cat like animal Caracal. Pokea said they are very rare. It had been three years since he saw the last one. Got very close to the lions. In fact, I had to ask Pokea to pull back to take better photos. One of the cheetah finds not very good--only

I'm coming to get you!
about 40 feet from the vehicle. I did get to see a cheetah strike. Zero to 60 in about three steps however it was over in five seconds. The gazelle took a side step and headed off at 90 degrees, the cheetah could not adjust in time, went flying by the gazelle, then pulled up, and looked around as if to say "I hoped no one saw that lame attempt."

Saw a hyena walk through a herd of gazelle. It was like he had a 20 feet bubble around him. The gazelle would turn to look at the hyena then step back to this 20 feet range. I ask Pokea why the gazelle were not afraid. The gazelle don't give the hyena any respect. Anyone who has the speed and ability to escape from a cheetah is not afraid of a slow hyena. Any aggressive move by the hyena and in a flash they would be out of range.

I realized I have been spelling lion wrong. Have been using the spelling of a student's last name I had in class. Tomorrow we head for the Ngorongoro Crater.
