This week starts the campaign in Moshi. So instead of writing one travel bog at the end of the week, I want to write a travel bog everyday to let you all know exactly what is going on everyday.
On Monday, the day before the campaign is orientation/folding tracks day. So we all arrived at the church building at 9am to begin to fold tracts for the week. After folding for a while it was time to start the orientation. Since I have done all of the campaigns before, Brent and I left early and went to Kili Kids Orphanage. We held a medical clinic there for the kids and since we both are so close with the kids we wanted to be there to help. The day went good, all the kids got checked and medications were distributed for the children that needed them. After a long day of folding tracts and working at the clinic Julie and I decided to take the Brittany, Sarah, Sarah, Janna and Lesley, the girls from Hattiesburg, MS up to see the waterfalls in Marangu. It is great to be able to go see the magnificent wonders of our amazing God.
Today (Tuesday) was the first day of the campaigns. We got up and had to be at the church building by 9am to start the day. When we arrived the African women had made chai(tea) and bread for everyone to have for breakfast. After we were finished we all went into the church building to divide up into out teams. Each team is responsible to pass out tracts and set up Bible studies in a certain area. In my team was Naomi our translator, Sarah, Janna and me. We were responsible for the Soweto area, which is the houses and roads around where the church is located. So we sent off in search of lost souls to save. Since today was market day a lot of people were busy and weren’t able to study but that didn’t stop us. Soon after we set out we had a Bible study with a lady who was cooking beans and rice for her relatives. I didn’t get a picture of this study because I was deeply focused on this woman’s problem. She told us that she longed for the truth and for her soul to be saved. She wanted to know what
the Bible said but she was afraid. The relatives she lives with right now are strong Muslims and if they found out she was going to a different church they would beat her. They would be so angry with her if they knew she was studying the Bible with us and she was scared that they would hurt her. She was so sad and she kept asking me, “ sister I don’t know what to do, tell me what to do!” This was so hard for me and I felt so sorry for her. I told her we would study the Bible and let it answer her questions. She didn’t have much time to study before her family returned so I gave her my Swahili Bible to keep and left her a study booklet. I told her to read it, look up the verses and write down any questions she had. We are to go back and study with her tomorrow but she said we might have to go to a different locations so her family doesn’t find out. WOW…how different is that from life in America!!
The next study we had was with a man who lived
about 20min from the first lady we studied with. This man had a lot of questions about where the church came from, who originated it, what year it began, etc. So we had to turn to many scriptures to show him about the one true church and that Christ was the head of the one true church. We spent most of our time answering questions he had which was great because he was really interested. We study with him again tomorrow.
After door knocking and setting up Bible studies all morning it was time for the out door preaching. The preaching was supposed to start at 4 but this being Africa it didn’t start until after 5. George Jensen did the lesson while Christopher Mwakabanje translated for him. The whole service was spoke over huge loud speakers so people for miles could hear the lesson. George did a great job and the crowd of listeners will only get bigger as the week goes on.
Today was a great day for Lord. We had at least one baptism that I know of and many study were held. Please keep us all in your prayer as we strive
to teach and do God’s will here in Tanzania!!
In Christian Love,
Callie
