New Blog Feature Student Stories We will try to highlight a student with his or her story in each new blog entry. In this July blog we are featuring Peter Fumbi. We have spoken of Peter in past blogs, but this is his story in his words. We hope you enjoy this new feature.
KING’S FRIEND GROUP My name is Peter Fumbi a theologian student at Msalato Theology College and the leader of the King’s Friend Group which helps street children to move from out of the street. As a student and other students have experienced a lot of things from our teachers, Rob and Jeannie have shared with us a lot of things at the college and to the villages where they meet with different people and share the gospel, but the interest thing is learning the language, so that they can greet in Chigogo “Mbukwenyi” which means “How are you” and you answer “Mbukwa” means fine. It has been interesting to the people to hear Rob and Jeannie speaking their language.
Also I always volunteer to help children who are sponsored by the Compassion more than 280 children. Here I
Daladala
This is daladala which was used to carry fruits but now it has changed to carry more than 35 people and baggage. am helping to translate letters from their sponsors from English to Swahili and leading the bible study. So in these programs I have been gaining a ride to the Centre with Madam Jeannie at 8:30 every Saturday.
This has been very helpful to me because it helps me to reach to the centre earlier than using daladala which is difficult transport as you can imagine how many people with their children entering in the daladala, so it causes sometime to wait more than 2 hours for the daladala and make you to be late. You can see a picture of the daladala which is used to take people from one place to another. So to me in gaining the support from Madam Jeannie has been very helpful to this ministry. Children who are sponsored by Compassion are not only Christians but they are different, some are Muslims, non-Christians and all of them are from poor families, so we take care by teaching them the word of God, sending them to hospital and helping them to achieve their goals in schools up to University by the support from the people who volunteer through Compassion. Always after the studies they get
Lunch at Compassion
They are all enjoying their lunch, rice with nyama (meat) with new shoes which they get after 3 month. lunch as you see them enjoying in the pictures.
In an included picture you can see Leah who is laughing is a Catholic, Nuru at the end left a Muslim, Mesibeth the second from left and Zawadi became Christians after being in the Compassion. Also in our church we got the support to build classes from the people from Canada known as FOR THE LOVE OF AFRICA SOCIETY, Victoria B.C Canada.
From 2009 I started the ministry with the street children where I have been friendly with more than 30 children, who after the ministry to the Compassion I always go to town in the streets to meet the street kids and buy food for them with discussions together. So not only Rob and Jeannie their support in the ministry to the Compassion, and my family but they have been very close to support in my ministry with these kids, some of whom are sniffing glue to ward off their hunger. Their advice and support has made this ministry to grow and I have been able to find more than 30 children to meet with.
In this ministry I have succeeded to help three children to go
out from the street and continue with the school. This is Joanitha whom I with my wife Nelly decided to take her from the street and live with her in order for her to be back to school. Now with Eva who is the young sister to Nelly, they are going to school together and when they come back they spent time together doing their homework although they are in different classes. I always encourage them to work harder and harder for their future lives. Sometimes when Nelly, my wife, has time she helps them do homework.
I am the gardener at Rob’s house where I get some money and from this I can support these children for their studies, food and other needs. I enjoy to work as the gardener because my dreams are becoming true to the children’s ministry.
Meeting with these children on Saturdays is not enough so I have some of the plans which will help them to come out of the streets. The plans for the future are to get a tractor which will help to cultivate and make money. This will help to support the children and bring them back to school,
Street Kids Lunch
This is one of the groups getting their lunch with Peter and after the lunch they go together for the discussion. for carpenters, tailors, and some to be with the program in cultivating in order to support their lives. I believe that God will show the way for these plans so that we can achieve success.

What I Learned from his Story
Enjoyed the personal account in this blog as I learned so much about how some youth deal with hunger, and the level of commitment of Nelly/Peter who would welcome vulnerable youth into their home. Good job! Glad to see Rob still the coach, or wannabee athlete. Take care!
