This afternoon's visit to the hide was a very good one. At first Paul and I watched a young elephant to the right of the hide that was eating grass. A zebra then approached and slowly walked to the wetland and then drank. The elephant then walked to the waterhole and took a drink of water and then walked away. A few other elephants appeared out of the bush.

Then it got exciting, a young male lion walked along the road, he stopped and then looked around. He then walked towards the waterhole as he looked at us. As he continued walking we noticed an unhappy bull elephant looking at the lion. The elephant then trumpeted very loudly, shook his head about and kicked his feet about – causing a cloud of dust. The elephant then slowly ran towards the lion. The lion was scared and he ran away from the elephant.

Maybe it was the elephant's size or the noise, whatever it was it was enough to make the lion leave the area. Altogether the elephant ran after the lion for about forty seconds- it really didn't want the lion near his waterhole! It would have been nice

to enjoy the lion sighting for a bit longer before the elephant scared him away. I was hoping that we would have been able to see him drink.
