We drove 150k to the Orpen Gate of the Kruger National Park to start a 4 day journey northwards through the Park which is the size of Wales staying on campsites within the Park. The day consisted firstly of a 50k drive to the site partly on tarmac roads and partly on gravel tracks most of which had become corrugated by the traffic and secondly a three hour sunset safari with a guide .

We had previously been told that the thing to do on safari holidays is to spot the big five animals, rhino, buffalo, leopard, elephant and lion. Surprisingly enough we saw them all on our first day ever in an African National Park and for the record I have included pictures of them all although in some cases the photography leaves a lot to desired.
