I have slightly over a month left before I head back to South Africa.
I guess I am already kind of using this as a journal of some sort..
I hope those that are subscribed do not mind.. as I am sure most
just want to see pictures and whatnot..

Things have been weird lately.. Money is super tight.. work
is slow for me..and it is hitting me hard. I am having to delve
into my savings account to pay for things I thought I would be able
to afford with my work money..medicine and even my rent at work..
It is somewhat frightening, as this is money I saved to take
to SA with me.. now it is diminishing. I just keep telling myself
just a few more weeks of paying everything I earn towards rent..
then I can stop worrying, because no matter what, I will be back
in South Africa.

I will catch the scent of burning sugar cane in the air.. taste the hot
curries and Nescafe coffee.. See the beautiful skylines and gorgeous
landscapes.. watch the impalas run and hear the rhythms of
Kwaito and Boeremusik.

Although I will miss the faces of my family and friends here, I can't help
but smile at the idea of seeing familiar faces in my second home..
I look forward to meeting new people in Soweto, Bloemfontein and
Lesotho as I make my way across the land, heading towards
Pietermaritzburg, which will become my home for quite some time..
I can't wait to brighten childrens' days with the chance to lay their
hands on technology.. to see and do new things..to inspire them to
dream of something better.. things are changing every day in South
Africa.. although the nation still faces many problems, each spark
of hope can make a future politician, teacher or doctor.

I think of my ancestors journeys from Germany and Ireland and what they
must have thought of their new home.. the struggles they endored
and the wonderful times they shared building a new life for the
future generations.. Maybe my family tree will branch across the seas again
to Suid Afrika..only time will tell.
And as Rolph Potts says "time is the only thing we truly own."
Some people I talk to tell me I should do all this while young, etc etc
but this isn't just some phase or travel itch.. I want to live the way
I feel so many people dream of but do not seek out. One does not
need great excess of money to see new places and find adventures,
just patience and determination; despite hard times and set backs.
I am sorry but I do not want your 9 to 5, your struggle to pay off
credit cards, your dream of being rich.. I just want to live.
