Our Farwell Dinner
Kim, Marnie, Cassidy and I at Moyo's for our good-bye dinner.... I cant believe this is the good-bye dinner for me too.... Strange. I SO dont want to go. :( Hi Ho! Hi Ho! It's off to the Winery we go!
Today we visited Spier Vineyards. It was an excellent way to spend your 2nd last day on the tour... *sniff sniff*, I cant believe that I have already been here for 51 days, I am so not ready to come home.... Oh well, back to the winery.
After perusing the winery shops we were taken for a guided tasting of 7 wines. Our guide explained pretty much every basic skill to tasting wine, but the only tip that stuck with me is that you pick a wine glass up by the stems so that when you smell the wine you have not contaminated the scent with the smells you already have on your hands.
All of the wines were delicious, especially the mixed grape white wine Vigonier and the dessert wine. Yum! I bought 3 bottles of wine, 2 dessert wines and one bottle of the Vigonier. I will be saving both the vigonier and the Spier Desert wine for my family so they can have a taste of Africa too.
After the wine tasting we rushed back to the campground to get ready for our

Showing off his face paint farewell dinner at Moyo's. This is the first farewell dinner that Marnie and I have gone to that is actually for us too. We were both pretty sad that we have to say good-bye to our trip, our bus, our tent, our friends and guides... I really hadn't put much thought into the fact that the trip would have to end- i just wanted it to keep going. I guess that is the perfect way to end a trip, when you don't want to go because you are loving every moment- I would hate to be thinking "Thank goodness it's over".
At Moyo's we all enjoyed more wine, great food and some funny "do you remember"s. There were lots of flashes going off as everyone was capturing their last group shots as we are off to Cape Town tomorrow and most people wont see each other again. 😞
In the morning Marnie and I packed up our tent G15 for the last time. It was great home to us for 52 days, we used it every night we were tenting. This was the first tent we got on our first night on the tour and we never slept

Finally posing for a picture- He never let us get a good shot, always hiding in another tent the whole way. I miss my tent!
Once in Cape Town Marnie, Kim, Kevin and Myself hit up an internet cafe to finish some emails and then headed for a walk to the V&A Waterfront for some sights and shopping. As we were trying to find our way, but felt lost, we all popped into the Sheraton to ask for directions- what a beautiful hotel! I immediately felt tired and grubby and started to realize how much I had missed some creature comforts on this trip. I told Kim that I would love to stay a night in the hotel just to feel civilized again. To know that my bed linens were clean, my towels were fresh, the hot water would never run cold and just know that there was someone there to answer my every beck and call if I wanted to beck and call. Kim agreed, and said i should book my last night in Cape Town in the hotel for a luxury stay... good idea!
After our walk we got to the hotel, got our room and luggage and headed to the room for a rest. We made dinner plans with Steph

and my face paint & Liz and Josh & Ramona at Mamma Africa Restaurant (Recommended by Erin and Mellissa from the 1st part of our trip). I hit the bed as I was feeling a pretty bad migraine- Marnie hit the shower and the phone rang. I answered the phone and it was Kim, she told me her and Kevin had rented a hotel that was supposed to have a kitchenette, but ended up with a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo. She wanted to know if her and Kevin could give me a little piece of the Sheraton by offering me the 2nd bedroom at the price I was going to be paying a hostel. HOW SWEET ARE THEY??? Of course I said that would be amazing and I would love to take them up on the offer! They said I could have the room the next day! What a surprise to end my trip!
Dinner at Momma Africa's was delicious! Marnie, ever the daring one, chose a very different and local cocktail off of the menu called "The Flaming Ox Wagon (BEWARE)". When she ordered it the waiter asked if she was sure, she said yes and he seemed distressed. He took
the rest of our drink orders and asked again if Marnie was sure that she wanted the drink, again her answer was yes. As the drinks were getting prepared he came by a third time and asked if she wanted it, again "yes". Now Marnie was starting to get concerned... Why would a waiter ask if she really wanted a drink so many times? Its not like he is saying why he looks so worried... What could the issue be? WELL...
The reason for all the concern is that this drink is the size of a martini, in total about 80% alcohol, you drink it through a straw in one continuous guzzle and it is flaming! AND when you are half way through drinking the first liquor as it is on fire, the waiter pours in a 2nd shot and you have to drink that too! NO STOPPING! You cant blow it our out and sip it, nope. It is like a crazy shot the size of a Manhattan Martini and a half! Man was Marnie drunk- and drunk fast!
The food was very good, but was runner up to watching Marnie drink the Ox Wagon. Everyone tried

my co-horts in Crime. Kim and Kevin with Cassidy something different off the menu, lots of game like Kudu, Ostrich and Springbok. I have tried so many different dishes along the way i seem to have forgotten what I ate that night. I think the memory of the Ox Wagon pushed it out of my mind.
All in all it was a very good last day to a wonderful, no regrets trip through Africa. Tomorrow I have to see Marnie off at the airport and then I have a week to spend in Cape Town and then on to London for 3 days to see the Queen.
