The next day I hitched a ride with Kieron to the Central Business District of Cape Town, with my plan to meet up with Nicio and his friends and go to the top of Table Mountain.
My South African friend dropped me off a mile or two below the cable car station and I walked the rest of the way. Firstly I went through some nice neighborhoods and a nice park on my way up. After making my way through some really nice areas I faced a challenge to get to the cable car station in time to meet up with Nicio, Fabio and Lucas. Between me and the cable car station was a huge hill, I could either follow the road and go around it or I could go straight up it. I chose the ladder and I’m glad I did, but at the time I was kicking myself for not walking on the road or even taking a taxi from where Kieron dropped me off. Snakes were my main concern but I survived the hike up and after an hour I made it to the cable car station, taking in some great views of the
city on my way up.
Forty-five minutes in the line to buy the the tickets to go up the mountain was enough time for me to catch my breath and air dry the sweat, and also see a sign below that mentioned there are snakes right where I was walking fifteen minutes prior! Twenty minutes later I was in the cable car and heading to the top of the famous Table Mountain. At the top it was not the most pleasant of weather conditions, windy and cold as the sign below had mentioned. I walked around the top for a bit and took a few photos before I ran into Nicio and company. We had a drink together at the café before heading back down the mountain, taking in a nice stroll to the Ashanti Lodge and Hostel where the Brazilians were staying.
All the walking/hiking I had done that day had really worked up my appetite and the guys and I headed out for a burger before deciding a place to watch the Spain/Germany semi final. It was great to hang out with the Brasileiros as a large majority of the time they spoke Portuguese which is
a language I’d really like to learn. We headed down Long Street and the Fan Fest to watch the match but after the first half we ended up back at Bob’s Pub to be in a warm, cozy and familiar place.
After the match the four of us met up with Nicio’s cousin (whom he had actually never met before!) and went out to do some dancing. We hopped to a couple different pubs and bars before calling it a night, it ended before it started, all of us tired from a pretty eventful day.
Kieron had to wake up early and had gone to bed while the match was on so I ended up staying at the Ashanti Lodge and sleeping a few hours before taking a taxi back to his place in the morning.
Hope you enjoy the views from Table Mountain! Until next time, Pura VIDA!
