Jameson Hall
UCT Upper Campus. The stairs where thousands of students sit on daily. Well, you would think that since I’m home I would be really good about getting this all updated and done with so that you all are not wondering what happened those last few weeks of my trip. Especially since compared to Cape Town, Albert Lea is pretty boring. So, there are going to be a few entries right in a row here to try not to overwhelm anyone. Mostly it is to not overwhelm any one entry with pictures, but it’s more than that. Let you follow my last few weeks at your own pace, because believe me, A LOT happened in my final 3 weeks in South Africa. So, let’s get started.
Well, around May 29th I was starting to freak out because I knew that my time in Cape Town was drawing to an end, and there was still soo much that I wanted to do and people that I wanted to spend time with before my time was over, and I still had one more final and a final paper to worry about. You would think that 5 months would be more than enough time, but I went ahead and decided that it wasn’t. On top of

Right of Jameson Hall. that, 3 of my friends and I were planning a trip for 5 days during the finals period, and that took some time too with preparations and whatnot. Well, as a result, I kept myself plenty busy.
Saturday, July 30th was Susy’s birthday, and so most of the day was spent studying and baking. I made monkey bread for the house again (I had to get rid of the buttermilk) and some cupcakes. That evening I headed over to Alma, and the celebrations began. We ended up going to a place to see this local Afro-Skaa band called the Rudimentals. I was pretty tired and ready to go home early, but since it was Susy’s 21st I didn’t have so much to say about it. Oh well, the Rudmentals and band that opened for them were good, and even though the floor was so flimsy I thought we were all going to fall through it while people were bouncing, dancing, and jumping around I made it through the night.
Sunday, June 31 was my last Sunday in Cape Town. This made it to be a really big day for me, because I had a few places I wanted

Left of Jameson Hall. My classes were all down this way. to be. I wanted to see my host family once more, and my friend Rachel had invited me over for supper and the evening service. Perfect, right?!? I was going to be home with just enough time to change in between. Well, as goes the best laid plans of mice and men, and in perfect line with the rest of my trip to South Africa, things didn’t go according to plan. It was quite an adventure. Well I started my morning by going to church with my host family in Retreat. The day was off to a rugged start when my ride called me to tell me that she had just woken up at about the time she was going to be at my house to pick me up. We made it just fine, and after church (which I had to address the congregation and thank them for being my home away from home) and after church we just had lunch at home. I then caught the train back to Mowbray because my family had other places to go. Well right in line with the flow of the day, the train was leaving retreat at the same time my friend
Souper Sandwich!!!
It may not look like much, but it's the best sandwich place on campus! was supposed to pick me up at home. Well, thankfully there was no set schedule, I just called Rachel and she came pick me up as soon as I got home. That evening at Rachel’s house was actually a nice little get together. She had friends over, and we just made pizzas and hung out. After an intense game of spoons, we all went to church together. After church Rachel brought me home. I was definitely tired, but it was a wonderful day.
The next few days went by somewhat uneventful, because I was studying, working on my paper, and preparing for our trip. My friend Guy and I did most of the planning for the trip, and the plan was to leave June 3rd right after my final. Well, after some consideration, we all decided it would be better to wait and just leave early on the 4th, which I was thankful for. So, on June 3rd I took my Psychology final and turned in my paper. After my final, Lull Susy and I went and picked up the car for our road trip. Let me tell you, we were the most exciting thing that happened to that

Going down from Upper Campus care rental guy all day. After that we headed to campus to meet the students from Notre Dame that were there on a customized 6 week program. We then went to the grocery store for the trip, and then headed home and packed.
It may not have been the most exciting few days, but I kept myself busy with studying and preparation. Stay posted for Guy, Susy, Lull and April’s Finals Road Trip Adventure.
