Wednesday 21th March

Woke after really good night sleep at 8am. Bed is really comfy which is always good. Today we are climbing Table Mountain and its another beautiful day, very hot. Breakfast at the guesthouse is great and we’re going to need it today. Marli picked us up at 9.30, and we had a quick coffee in the garden before leaving for Table Mountain. We aim to walk up taking the Platteklip Gorge Route up, which was the first ever route up the mountain. The route takes a very steep stepped trail up a 1200 metre ascent. Not knowing what to expect we parked the car, walked to the trail and set off at 10.30am. Two hours later we reached the top of Table Mountain, after what could only be described as a steep fairly tough climb to the summit, especially in the heat of the day, but we made it and felt totally exhilarated when we stood on top and taking in the spectacular views of Cape Town and beyond. After taking in the breath taking vista after an hour, we then took the easy option and traveled down the mountain in the revolving cable car. What

took us 2 hours to climb, took 3 minutes 20 seconds to descend. We then drove to Kirstenbosch botanical gardens about 10kms out of the city, in a very fashionable and exclusive area, where we had a lovely picnic that Marli had arranged. THANKS MARLI.

In the afternoon the weather had completely changed and had become a little overcast and windy so we were lucky we had climbed Table Mountain in the morning. In the evening we ate at a vietnamese restaurant on Kloof Road called Saigon which we walked to as it was only 3 blocks from the guest house. It’s really weird though, the street seems safe, but its quite disconcerting as nobody else seems to walk at night on the streets. We had a lovely meal for around 10 quid per head, and walked back to get some sleep.

Ta Ta for now. M & K
