Thornybush Game Park
Look at this big beautiful boy! Well Saturday morning up 3.45a.m., bus 4.45a.m. to airport, Cape Town to JoBurg again, then bus for 6hrs to a township about an hour away from Thornybush where we were transferred to small mini buses and transported to the Thornybush Game Reserve main gate where we were met by our guide and spotter for a game drive 4.00p.m. Whoooo! what a day! Brad our guide/driver is brilliant as is Orlando the spotter and tracker....alll I ever wanted to achieve whilst in Africa was to see a leopard, bucket list....ticked! It was amazing the leopard had killed an impala and dragged the kill up a tree and we were feet away watching it feast on the impala. The excitement was high, even Brad was so, so excited, he hadn't seen this before having been a guide in this park for 2 years, lots of photos etc, then saw a few elephants, impala, wildebeest and birds. Towards to the end of our drive.....sundowner drinks in amongst the bush...G&T in style and beers for the boys. Back to lodge for a delicious dinner of chicken for some and impala shanks for me...delicious. Markey blown away with the prices of drinks etc.....we are 600klm from
Leopard eating its kill up a tree
The highlight of our trip so far! JoBurg, in the bush and the beers are under $2 and bottle of wine $12 botttle......Pier Street Altona $9 for a stubby!!!Each day there is a game drive 6am and 3.30pm and we are here for 3 nights but already have seen so much...today another sighting of a leopard up a tree which had just been chased by a few lions...again a rare sighting! If we don't see another animal we are over the moon at what we have seen. Mummy and daughter giraffe, warthogs, mother lion and 3 cubs, buffalo, hippos, big daddy lion.....the only one of big 5 we haven't seen yet is the rhino but we hope to do that too! The Thornybush Lodge I am sure is very expensive but it is just beautiful, owned by a South African Family....very unique!. By day 3 seen all big 5 and much more....zebra, hippo, more lions, wild dog den with a lot of pups ...it has been extraordinary! Had a dinner under the stars in the bush last night...that was pretty special...BBQ withall the trimmings. Each evening whilst on game drive we always stop for sundowners, drinks and nibbles!
