Well… my trip to Kruger was starting to look in doubt or a least not very pleasant.
I had been sick for 3 days leading up to our drive to Kruger. I have been suffering from some of the worst stomach cramps I’ve ever had. Along with what they call here “runny tummy” lol the shivers and being so tired I could hardly think.!!
The day before our trip I was still feeling awful so I decided I better do something about it otherwise I knew I wasn’t going to enjoy Kruger as much as I should. So I bit the bullet and Leane took me to the doctors.
Seeing the doc was fairly cheap, but the cost of the antibiotics and some other stuff he gave me cost more than the consult fee - weird!!!
He said that I had some intestinal thing and that I would need antibiotics to get over it.
I have since finished the drugs and I’m starting to get it back again *sigh*!!!
The big Kruger adventure begins……we left about 6.30am on the Sunday and arrived in Kruger about 1pm.
As we got closer and closer to Kruger, the rain got heavier and
heavier. We couldn’t believe it. We had been getting ourselves ready to 40+ temperatures…not this!!
And we were CAMPING!!! Hahaha
Kruger is THE most marvellous things I’ve done in my life. And I certainly want to do it again!!!
I got to see Kruger in a state that a lot of people don’t get the fortune of seeing. I got to see the landscape in green and the rivers flowing again.
The animals that I saw did look happy about the rain. Except for the crocodile that looked like he’d just had a severe talking to from his land lord!! He wasn’t to impressed as the rivers were running way to fast even for a croc.
Sadly only 1 week before we got there. An Austrian family of 5 had a tragic car accident by overturning their rented 4wd off a concrete bridge into a nearly flooded river. The husband (the driver) was the only person to survive. L
The country side was spectacular. There were Impala everywhere and soon became the dirty word after the second day. From which time we just called them “more of those things” lol
Talk about babies!!!!! Some animals out there
have been doin the WILD THANG!!!! If you get my drift!!! Lmao
They were everywhere, especially the Impala. They are so funny when they get a little frisky!! Lol
Running around, bouncing around the place. You could and we did (me and leane anyway) sat and just watched them for a long time.
Also the baboons were very very entertaining. The baby baboons are a crack up - they are on some serious drugs, they buzz around and annoy the older ones…then do cartwheels and back flips - truly they had us in fits of laughter!!
We were VERY lucky to see some amazing animal sights!!!
The first was a pride of lions eating a buffalo kill. This has been my biggest worry about my trip to Kruger. Actually seeing a kill!!!!! I can’t even watch the chase on TV. I just imagine the terror the prey must be going through and then the suffering until its suffocated. Yeah yeah yeah I know - its just nature. But nature sometimes can just plain ole SUCK!!!! Especially when it’s a cute little baby something being chased down - I only just saw here on Animal planet a show on lions
taking out the freshly born…. OMG talk about water works!!!!
I just can’t handle it - I get NO kick from it and I don’t see why any would - but people do *shug*
Anyway…. Luckily we didn’t see any kills happening, just the enjoyment of seeing them filling their tummies. This bit I can handle lmao
Another time was we saw in a tree over hanging a creek, a Leopard sleeping … so what?!?! Well for starters is a LEOPARD and the 2nd was that it also had a kill. In the tree with him!! He had hauled this fully grown adult impala up a damn tree. AMAZING!!!!!
He was so content with his achievement, he allowed himself to recharge before enjoying his dinner some more.
He was so cute, so big and so damn powerful. I hope the pics turned out - I had to rely on Leanes camera to get some up close pics.
He had perfect black round circles over his cheeks…. Looked so cute!!!
We also saw heaps of Giraffes. They are my favourite. They are so graceful, beautiful and just so different!!! We even saw some baby giraffes, but not many.
We
didn’t see any Elephants until we drove further up north. We went to Olifants and saw some very impressive specimens. One boy, had the biggest arse and tusks I’ve ever seen on an elle. He was HUGE!!!! So see them in the flesh you really do see the size difference between the African and Asian elles.
A funny highlight to the trip was seeing a dung beetle, rolling his prize possession down the centre of the dirt track. He started rolling it across, and then changed direction. We had to reverse the car before we lost sight of him so we could make sure we didn’t run over him. I really do hope he made it to the other side. There were some d*******ds on the road!!!
The other funny sight was watching a chameleon cross the road. He was a beautiful green and he did his funny slow motion swaying walking. He took forever to get going!!! Lol
If you ever get the chance to go to Kruger….make sure you do!!! Its beautiful!!!!
