Tour Guide KenTour Guide KenTour Guide Ken

Ken was our guide, driver and chef. At the end of the day he loved having a G & T with the crazy Australian chicks.
Ok - to try to fill you in on the last couple of weeks. The photos probably tell the story best but:

We've seen: giraffes, lions, cheetahs, elephants, hippos, crocodiles, impalas, gemsboeks, springboeks, steenboeks and other assorted boeks, water buffalo, hyena, warthogs, snakes and more.

We've eaten buffalo, kudu, mealie pap, billtong, boervoers and chakka lakka (treats we shall cook up for you when we return).

We've swum with hippos and crocodiles.

We tried to pole a mokoro (not as easy as they Botswanians make it look).

We celebrated New Year's Eve in true African style!!!

We were entertained by the mokor polers with fantastic singing and dancing around the campfire. In return, we Aussies got up and sang the hokey pokey, Aussie Aussie Aussie, Advance Australia Fair and performed the chicken dance! (At least they had the good nature to politely applaud at the end of our abysmal performance.) This night would have to be one of the most memorable we have had. Out in the middle of the Okavango Delta - hippos munching grass just metres away, lions 'talking' all night in the distance, and we were sitting around the campfire drinking port

This was an amazing experience. So beautiful and relaxing - all we needed was a glass of champagne and a serenade to complete the picture.
and listening to the sensational voices of these Africans.

We are now in Durban - we were planning to fly up to Zanzibar but Air Tanazania has gone belly up so airfares on other carriers have sky rocketed. Hence, a change in plan. It is a beautiful city - although the weather is not being kind and our plans to spend the days relaxing on the beach are not coming to fruition. We did some excellent shopping yesterday and are very much enjoying the cafe/restaurant scene here.

We can't believe tonight is our last night in Africa so have planned a braai at the B & B we are staying in.

Hopefully we will be in tough from Singapore - if not we will be home on Friday.

Hope all is well.

Well it provided a big laugh for Pete & Kristabell. (And no - I was not too heavy to ride one!!!)

Victoria Falls

The Falls are only 40% full yet the power of water going down is so strong that when you walk along the water spalshing back up is like it is pouring rain. We should have taken shampoo and soap for a shower.

Karma Rhino Sanctuary was fantastic. Wide open plains which made it wasy to see so many animals sharing a watering hole.

Our first night in Zambia and we went for a beautiful sunset 'booze cruise' down the Zambezi with hippos, crocodiles and assorted birds.

By the end of the 10 days we had setting up and packing up of these tents down to a fine art!

After a four hour 4WD safari through Chobe where all we saw were impalas and kudu, just as we were leaving the park, a herd of elephants walked right past our car. There were about 30 including babies. Amazing

A sensational group of 7 Aussies and one Finnish girl. We had such a fun time with them.

On our early morning walk we ran into a group of giraffes - we got within 30 metres of them. Unbelievable. Then a hyena came along sussing out his breakfast.
