Hi all,
After one day at sea we arrived at Durban, South Africa on April 16th. Toured a Zulu village and viewed native costumes and dance. Toured a native snake exhibit, and crocodiles, fairly interesting. In the afternoon toured the Golden Mile beachfront. Very disappointing! Had to stay close to the police station, or probably be mugged, sand not white, water not blue, local hotels taken over by the locals and used for housing, no good restaurants. Back to the ship - Bob was disappointed, not what he had expected. Lots of changes in 45 years, and none of them good. Next day, April 17th we arrived at Richards Bay, South Africa. Toured the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, which was the private hunting reserve of the Zulu chief. Did it in a four wheel drive vehicle, saw a white Rhino, lots of Elephants, Giraffes, Antelope, Wart Hogs, local birds. One of the Elephants started walking right at us, so driver backed up-good move! Very good tour, informative driver, good local lunch. Back to ship eight hours later. We will be at sea for three days now. Good turnout for the bridge tournaments. We have come in 2nd, lst, and 3rd. Pleased because we get masters points for placing. Good gym facility, and good walking deck. Workout every day, go the eight am Mass every morning, very good priest. So far the food as been better than normal. Already took one cooking class. Will talk again after we leave Reunion island.
