New ice cream hits Seychelles! It’s the Haagen Daaz/ Ben n Jerry’s (neither of which can you get here) of the Indian Ocean. I’m talking Pralines and Cream, Tiramasu, Vanilla, Double Chocolate, Natural Strawberry and Strawberry Cheesecake. Luxury in a tub (at £5 a pop). My own tub is now officially in development.... read more

No sex involved, just hot car - not as in stolen (who’d have it) or jaw droppingly sexy (it’s bright green) but as in overheated. Yup, turns out that our radiator pipe had a tear in it causing it to overheat. We are yet again grateful to lovely people, we borrowed our neighbours car to go put a sign on the car to say please don’t tow it and in the bargain also got the number of a whizz mechanic as our guy wasn’t about. Despite it being a Sunday, whizz mechanic sent out his son to help us, who arrived from the beach with his mate and girlfriend and kids in the back. How bad did we feel? He lobbed off a bit of the radiator pipe and put it back together again and believe ... read more

It was one of the newbies birthday’s and so we went off to the Boathouse in Beau Vallon to partake of its Creole Buffet, all very civilised and so it was until we got chatting to the table next to us, which god love’em was full of Americans. We found out, the island is full of em’ because the largest ever fleet has just landed in Mahe. All two thousand of them. Awesome. We’re polite and chat and find ourselves invited back to the hotel room, sorry villa, where they’re staying. The other one is not so keen and we’re out on it but we finish paying and see that two of the newbies have already done one and left with them and the other couple with baby are also going. So why the hell not, ... read more

Someone joined Social Seychelles promoting their belly dancing club and I thought, why not? My bits shake more unintentionally as I get older anyway, so may as well give an excuse for my belly and breasts to hang out… besides its far better than competing with pre teens with their hardboiled bodies. I try to recruit others to the cause and it seems to cause the most interest in an event on Social Seychelles yet albeit I did let everyone of my female friends know about it - let’s see what happens!... read more

We do the obligatory La Digue thing and hire bikes, though with little Z it’s a bit more tricky to find a bike with a seat that’s safe enough for him - and thenbless he falls asleep, ending up almost perpendicular to the wheel so that NRG ends up carrying him in the baby sling while trying to ride too - no mean feat. We make for Anse Source D’Argent, the obligatory beach, and potter along its shaded path trying to find the perfect spot - we find it - a couple of sun loungers hiding behind a scattering of granite boulders that are like confetti here, celebrating the island’s wondrous coastline. The waters are shallow but translucent and with snorkels snug on skin, me, Abs and the other one, navigate the rocky seabed and swim ... read more

It was hot, I was suffering from hangover peaks and troughs and it was an hour before the bride even arrived (we were early, she was late). The church was simple and had a nice view out to the mountains while the choir added to the celebratory atmosphere. The man of the cloth was of the smiley, preachy variety and I think spotting fresh blood, deviated from the 16 page wedding programme making the ceremony even longer than it should have been. I think it was a lovely service (not having that much to compare it too) and it was a privilege to have been invited as only a couple of expats were on the list. Our plan to slope off afterwards was unfortunately thwarted as it became clear that we were the lift for one of ... read more

It all started with the England vs Algeria game. A get together at friends, there was no choice but to drink away our sorrows and we did, but given that the game started here at 10.30pm that didn’t bode well. As the sun broke and it got lighter, we realised all of a sudden (really) it was 7.30am. Usually, this isn’t a problem, we’ll laze in bed and sleep it off but nope we had plans - we had a wedding to go to. Thankfully, not a close friend so we could duck out early we hoped but our bigger problem was that we hadn’t yet bought a present either. After three hours kip, the alarm sounded it was into town. And we’d forgotten where we were; Mahe, land of shops shutting at 12.00pm and what ... read more

this car has a lot to answer for... Half a mile from our house, just before a bend and the dashboard flashed and the car stopped dead. The other one tried the engine and there was nothing. My stomach dropped, we were surrounded by the deepest black and it was nearly midnight. It was horrible. We got out the car, put the hazards on and watched as a few cars drove by. We had to move the car, if we’d left it, as it was just before a bend, it would have been totalled (perhaps not a bad thing?). Thankfully, a car stopped and three young Seychellois lads offered a hand, even more thankfully, there was a house with a private drive where we could tuck the car away (we’d have been buggered if we’d broken ... read more

After two weeks, our buds Abs, NRG and Z are off home. We’ve had an ace time with them and can’t believe how super sweet and generous they’ve been. Now we’re back to my rubbish cooking, no cute little Z to cuddle and only myself as an audience for the other one’s ‘jokes’ - the pressure is on. We do though have a whole hard drive of goodies that they’ve left us and frankly, I couldn’t wait to see them go. Now I can start watching Dexter Series 2.... read more
