July 26, 2017 - Today was a really good day. I woke up early, and thought I may as well try to see the sunrise, rather than staying in bed and trying to sleep again. I dressed quickly and got on my bike, back to the same beach by the art gallery that I visited yesterday afternoon. It was just me and the crabs again. I think they may be my spirit animal. They're just cool. I stayed there until almost 8am, when breakfast starts at the hotel, but when I arrived, a couple had just finished eating. I guess you can eat early. I had the same breakfast as yesterday, but this time put my friend eggs on toast, and enjoyed licking up all the runny yolk that rolled off, my favorite part.
The morning started out the best so far, looking like it would be sunny with blue skies. It was the best morning I'd seen in a long time, and I decided today was the day to go to Anse Source d'Argent, and the other beaches that are close by. I cycled over, paid my fee, and cycled past all the other things, like the tortoise pen
and vanilla plantation. I usually like to see everything, but I was really interested in these beaches and I planned to give it a go and stay all day, so I wanted to find a nice place to sit. I parked by bike and walked to the beach. The sun was out, the skies were blue, and water was beautiful. I took a million photos as I walked from beach to beach, and was quite happy to be there. It was really beautiful, and exactly what you picture when you think of tropical paradise.
Once I finished looking around, I searched out a place to stay for the day. I was quite happy with the spot I found, under some trees, with a beautiful view, not too many others around. By 10am I had my book out and was settling in. Despite being so very hot every day, today it was breezy and I almost felt too cool under the trees. Is this how the beach is every day? I considered moving to the sun, but didn't. I went into the water twice, and it was very shallow, but I sat down and just hung out in the water
for a while. I spent a lot of time reading my book, and I'm so glad I chose a fantasy book this time. It used to be all I ever read, and now I read more nonfiction, but I'm really enjoying the story. I stayed in my spot until 4pm, and then started to pack up. It hardly felt like six hours had gone by. I think the place closes at 5pm, though I have no idea how they get everyone out. The tide had started to come in, and I decided it was time to check out other parts of the property on my way out. The only really interesting thing I came across was the cemetery that had belonged to the first owner, and it had her family and friends.
My next stop was the flycatcher reserve, where I went to see my two birds and the skink, all present and accounted for. This time I brought insect repellent and sprayed some right on the mosquito biting me. It worked. From there, I went across the street to Gala takeaway, for the third day. By this time, some clouds had come in, and it didn't look like
there would be a stunning sunset, so I had an early dinner there. I ate fish stir fry outside and read my book, then got a soft serve ice cream and also ate that outside. I'm glad I did. As I ate, I could hear the sounds of some sort of fruit or nut dropping to the road occasionally. It started to become more frequent after a while. I could also see fruits bats flying around and heard them squacking at each other in the background. Then I realized the two were connected. The bats were in the trees and dropping the fruits to the ground, either accidentally or when they had finished eating them. I watched them for a while, and it was pretty cool to see how they moved around in the trees.
I left for home and what sunset there was at 5:45pm, and cycled back to the hotel. I walked around the corner again, just enough to see the sun setting through the clouds, and sat on the road to take some pictures. I listened to a podcast at the same time, which was a nice combination.
Back at the hotel, I started to
pack, and also decided to watch a tv show. A student of mine had recommended Reign last year, and I have the first two seasons, but had not watched them yet. I watched one episode before bed, and now I'm hooked! Damn.
