Apparently, this is supposedly a very dry and rigid area of the world. I come and there is flooding for the first time in… according to Locke – the first time he has seen it. He is in his 40’s.
One thing that I never experienced before in my life is a lightning storm. I am used to thunder, lightning and rain, but never just a lightning storm. As Ann and I were trying to go to sleep, this storm started and lit up the sky. The two of us with our little cameras tried for about 45 minutes to get a picture as this was one of the most glorious things I have ever seen! I got 2 pictures at the end of the night. Oh… the night. The two of us couldn’t sleep for shit. It was so hot. There were polyester sheets and the mosquito net was being blown in my face as I had the fan on high. OYE. This is definitely part of the experience so I am going to suck it up for sure. Locke said we would all get used to the heat in a few days. The lightning lasted about 6 hours. Insane!
So, our little reject family was given assigned seating by Locke as he didn’t want to hear about it anymore. I definitely shouldn’t have told Linda to take her stick out of her ass, but I tried compromising with her and she refused. Locke said he will place me in the front no matter what when the roads are really tough as he doesn’t want to see me drugged up on motion sickness pills all the time and/or get sick. Linda loveless told me that I shouldn’t be allowed on this trip. She indicated that I am handicapped (motion sickness people) and it is taking away from her time in the front seat? If I get in any trouble it will be slipping her some stool softeners – I figure the stick may fall out?
Ok, ok… again with the negative nelly remarks – gosh, if it wasn’t for my roommate who is silly and makes me laugh all the time and Locke winking at me every time Linda is a ho… I would have gotten myself kicked out of Africa all together.
So, our drive begins (I have the front seat as Ann gave me her seat today). We are supposed to go to a forest. The road to the forest is closed due to flooding. Next stop is lunch. After lunch we are supposed to go to a cat walk sanctuary. The road there is closed too. Locke studies his map for about 30 minutes. We stare and wait for the outcome. He said we can’t stay where we are supposed to stay as the power lines are down and as it is in the same direction with all the other floods, chances are we would never make it or get stuck. We did have fun with a muddy experience trying to get to the forest. After 5 minutes of slip and sliding, we had no choice but to turn around. Locke at least gave it a shot.
We are missing out on a nature walk and a sundown tour. No one can control Mother Nature. So we continue driving until around 4pm to our next night’s guesthouse. We are going to stay here 2 nights instead of 1. I can’t really describe the beauty of what I am looking at right now. Due to some of the earlier rain, it is about 70 degrees which is heaven. I am on acres and acres of land. Animals are everywhere. There is lush grass, trees, plants, flowers, pools, and the rooms are lovely (no AC, but thank g-d there will be no need for it tonight). The owner gave us a tour and he told us all about his pets – which include some wacky ass animals. I haven’t seen them yet, but he assured us that we will. They usually come back home close to sundown as they roam freely during the day. He said to watch out for the scorpions and snakes. If we see one just go the other way. Locke said to feel free to squash the scorpions. Oh Locke…
As Coleman was super sore, I offered to give him a stretch. Ann wanted in, so we did a much modified Pilates session with Coleman. Man, he is super tight – I suggested he stretch more so his arthritis doesn’t act up as much. Who knows if it will work, but at least he should get his blood flowing a little bit. As Ann is a 90 pound Asian lady, she is so flexible it is ridiculous. After Coleman left, we did some abdominal and leg work. It was a very peaceful late afternoon. The guesthouse offers a home cooked meal, so I am showered and ready to go.
Besides the long drive and Queen Linda’s attempts to piss me off, it was a very nice day.
