After a long drive up Namibia's desolate Skeleton Coast (also known as the Sands of Hell) we have had a great time playing in the huge sandpit of the Namib
Desert. First up was a dawn climb up Dune 45 to watch the sunrise - a very difficult thing to do when you are half awake and we were frequently wondering if it would be worth it - it was. Especially for the half run half fall down the dune afterwards. We then staggered around in the desert for a while with a Bushman guide who made walking across the dunes seem like an afternoon stroll. His speciality was plunging his hand into the sand and drawing out some unfortunate creature which had been happily snoozing. We were going to try this but were fairly sure we'd bag a scorpion. Next stop Swakopmund which is mostly known for its adrenaline pumping activities. We choose just the one- sandboarding. This is a lot of work as you can't simply take a lift to the top of the dune which leaves walking up as the only option. It is worth it though!
