There is a beautiful place on this planet, with the power to take your breath away, hidden away from mainstream tourism's eyes.I'd heard such amazing stories from the very few people that I had met that had visited some of the remote areas of Namibia, that it fired my imagination and I made a mental note to put it into my own personal "bucket list", (things to do before I kick it) as one of the to... Faces Of Expectation

Not wanting to enter the traditional Oase Himba village in empty handed, we decided to bring bags full of goodies and chocolate to the children. With faces full of expectation they excitedly formed a line from the smallest at the front to the tallest behind, as they eagerly anticipated the village elder's arrival to hand out the candy.

I was surprised to see even in the middle of the desert where water is scarce, that life can be so tenacious.

The last traces of scarce moisture rapidly evaporate away, to be left with brittle dry as a bone lakebed mud in the Namib Desert. The broken egg shell pattern, the only memorial to it's passing.

I asked Charles for a drink of water from his bottle,he made me beg for it and I got it over me in one go. What a waste of resources but it was very refreshing in the desert heat!

Mountain Of The GodsMountain Of The Gods
Mountain Of The Gods

The"Brandberg" Mountain is Afrikaans and German for Fire Mountain, which comes from its rich glowing colour which is sometimes seen in the rising or setting sun.The Damara name for the mountain is Dâures, which means 'burning mountain', while the Herero name, Omukuruvaro means 'Mountain Of The Gods'. The Brandberg itself is not a volcano but is a granite plug which was pressed out of the volcano's pipe and stopped at about 10 000 meters under the surface. It is a very spiritual site of great significance to the San Bushmen. The main attraction here is The White Lady rock painting, located on a rock face with other art work, under a small rock overhang,

Best place to be in the world
You are right. Also for me, Namibia is the most beautiful country in the world. Someone once told me: you will cry twice when you visit Namibia. Once when you arrive there. The first impression is just plain desert and nothing more. But when you start travelling and see the landscape and when you meet the locals you will not stop crying when you have to leave. It simply is magical. Having travelled around the southern hemisphere for 1 year - Namibia still is my no 1 destination. Great photos you published!
