Saturday, October 19th Day 14 -- Our final day in sun-kissed Essaouira – the perfect weather here had been a wonderful gift which we had taken for granted. Regrettably, this day we will have little or no time to breathe in the fresh sea breezes or walk the charming, narrow lanes of its colorful medina. While I could easily have enjoyed more time in Essaouira, I also enjoy the anticipation that e... Read Full Entry

Hassan II Mosque
The mosque in Casablanca is hands down one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. The hotel I stayed in in Casablanca was about a block from the mosque, and I would often walk through the plaza on my way back to the mosque, and I got a great view of the minaret from my room.

Hassan II Mosque
Thanks so much for reading my blog, Karen. I thought the mosque was extraordinary too, and I especially thought that about the minaret! How lucky to have a room close enough to be able to enjoy all that beauty from your window!

Casablanca
I've never been particularly keen to visit Casablanca as I'm aware it's quite modern and would look very different from that old film - plus, Humphrey Bogart wouldn't be there! But that mosque looks beautiful and really worth seeing so I may have to revise my views :) I'm so pleased you opted to do the tour so you could share all these great photos of it!

Casablanca
Thank you, Sarah. It's true that what we saw while in Casablanca does not resemble the movie of the same name at all. If you go to "Rick's Cafe" though, it wouldn't be difficult to image that Humphrey Bogart might appear at any moment! We did not visit Casablanca's medina though wished we could have! Still I think this city has enough to offer in the way of sights for a visit. The tour of the Hassan II Mosque was definitely worth the price of admission (though rather dear compared to other sites that charged admission) and shouldn't be missed. As beautiful as the mosque is, unfortunately it has already experienced structural issues because of its position on the ocean. So you should plan a visit soon! Thanks for complimenting my photos!

Casablanca
I presume it was a tourist bus to show such an old film as Casablanca. Notwithstanding the quality of any film on a bus I prefer to look out the window and see the World go by while others look at their mobile phones, films or read. That's just me I guess, otherwise I feel I am missing out. Love this pic, a fitting image for the myriad of memories you must have of such a wonderful Morocco trip.

Casablanca
Thanks for your comment, Dave. I know I've mentioned numerous times that we were with a tour group, and toured by bus. Also in this blog I mentioned that the movie shown on this occasion was the first and only time that the monitors were used except to show us maps. As for the movie, I believe it was shown to rev up our anticipation of arriving in Casablanca. And believe me, the scenery between Essaouira and Casablanca was nothing to write home about especially when compared to the landscape we had previously scene during drives. Thanks for reading and I'm glad you like that photo!

The charms of Morocco
We know the sadness of leaving Essaouira. Morocco remains one of our favorite travel experiences. I still think about a chicken apricot tanginess dinner with had that makes my mouth water. The architecture and people are lovely.

The charms of Morocco
Thanks so much for your visit and nice comment! So nice to know that others feel the same about Morocco as I do! A Chicken apricot tagine sounds especially good!! Do you have any plans for a return visit to Morocco?

Full Circle
I love coming Full Circle on a trip, it allows great contemplation in comparing one's first experiences of a new place with the renewed experiences after having travelled around. Lovely to hear you had plenty of time for contemplation of what appears to have been a wonderful trip. I'm so glad to read that it fulfilled and succeeded your expectations of the country. Thank you so much for taking me around with you on your journey. I imagine very much that Morocco will still be in your memory even one year on. I hope we all get to travel again sometime soon. Thank you again Sylvia, and wishing you all the very best.

Morocco
What a beautiful last blog. We loved the Hassan II Mosque too - it was on the same block as our hotel and catching sight of the stunning minaret from our room window on our first morning basically set the tone for the whole trip. I'm so happy you enjoyed your time in Morocco so much, it's such an easy country to fall in love with and admire. And thank you for taking us on the journey with you :)

Morocco
Thank you very much for your kind comments! I'm so glad we visited Morocco and as you said, it's an easy country to fall in love with. We were very lucky to have such an excellent guide and good group to travel with -- I'd love to go back some day even for a short visit. But other new countries I'd like to visit are beckoning me too!
