Godt Nytt År / Happy New Year First and foremost thank you all for comments on the blog! We love reading them! Hope you all had a good break during the holidays and are now ready for a new year with all the opportunities that it will bring! Some of you are expecting your first child (or just had one!), some are changing jobs, some are moving place and country altogether... Whatever you might be up to: Good Luck to all - keep us posted!! ☺
Celebration of New Years Eve in Troux Aux Biches After they have been selling fireworks in every shop for weeks we were not surprised when the fireworks went off all night, we even woke up to “bang, bang” in the morning on the 1st of Jan. Good fun and some of the hotels had some fantastic shows. We had a good international celebration on New Year’s eve with French Laurent that is working at the French embassy and Dutch Estee dive instructor at Blue Water Diving. After a few appetizers at home we went down to the local restaurant/bar for a treat. The food was a bit comme ci comme ça, but the
break dance entertainment followed by Sega later was all good fun (also the volume discounted Pina Coladas).
The sega is both the national dance and musical form of Mauritius. After a round of Happy New Year wishes to everybody at the restaurant and with the fireworks firing of in everywhere we ran of to the beach to catch the hotel shows. And it was worth it, if we are here next year I would spend the whole evening at the beach. Bit of food some good drinks and good friends. We ended up at one of the hotels disco stage over the water, it was great to get some proper dancing in! Wandered back on the beach at 2am, tired after a full evening, but all very happy! Happy 2007!
We found Pimms in the shop! Aaahhhh what is better than a cold
Pimms with cucumber, oranges and mint. I know we are missing the fantastic strawberry, but not too many of those around down here. If you are not from UK or have not been in there in the summer time you might not be familiar with this fantastic garden drink. I would highly recommend that you bring with you a bottle if you visit UK and
try to make this superb summer drink:
What you need to make the yummy Pimms:
1 part Pimms No1
4-6 parts English lemonade, Sprite or Ginger Ale
A shot of gin (optional, but spikes it up nicely)
A dash of ginger beer
Ice
Fresh mint leaves
Cucumber
Oranges
Strawberries (if you can find any!)
There are lots of Pimms recipes online, but here is one good one:
Spittoon.
Yes, they bite! Now, for those of you who have been with us on trips out in the bush knows that Joachim is the one that usually gets bitten… and bitten a lot. Now for what ever reason the Mosquitoes has a huge preference for Norwegian blood. Today I have about 15 big bites and Joachim has two very small ones. It is not this bad normally, but I think it is related to that the humidity was high and no wind that got me yesterday. Good thing I have found the magic anti-itch cream: Moustidose - Soothing gel. Calming, soothing and anti-inflammatory! Magic, but I need to find the wholesale dealer.
MUG - Mauritius Underwater Group The local BSAC club
MUG is very active and it
is fun to meet up with other divers at the social on Tuesdays. They dive mostly every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday all around the island. We have been busy at Blue Water Divers, but have now become members of the club and hope to go diving with the other MUGs very soon.
New pictures online on flickr We have finally got around to uploading some pictures up to flickr. There are pictures from Christmas party, around and about on the Island, our flat and of course diving. We have some photos public, but if you would like to see all pictures for friends and family drop us a line and we add you. The link is:
