on our hols in Malindi
Sorry this is a bit late but there were some difficulties uploading this in Kenya last week. we will upload another blog soon

Hello
We have just got back from our final (for now…) trip to Sakutiek. We are ecstatic to report that all is going fantastically! So much so it was even overflowing when we were there. After some initial trepidation from some of the community members things are looking great. They have permanently employed one of the maintenance men to look after the taps and tanks and collect 1 Kenyan Shilling (1 pound is 130 shillings) for every 20 litres collected which will go towards maintenance and prevents wastage. So far people have been collecting water everyday and the tanks have not run dry once. We will also be arranging to send the Sakutiek maintenance men to Thika for one final course in the Kijito workshop which will improve their confidence and competence in dealing with the machine. It has been up and running for 4 weeks now and everything looks positive. The whole community says a huge thank you to everyone who donated and you are in their thoughts.

We are off to

Lamu from the roof
Endonyo Narasha tomorrow for the handing over ceremony. We have heard from World Concern that it is all functioning ridiculously well. The tank and trough filled up surprisingly quickly and both are now being used. We also received a call from the Vice President of a major international charity that has commissioned 1000 boreholes in Kenya who visited the site and said he was ‘inspired’ by our project! Go wind power!

We have managed to wind down since we finished the projects last week with some quality time on the coast, and reassuring phone calls that everything was going well at the sites. The two Wills kept us fully entertained with fun and frolics and kept Pete company at the bar as Jo sipped on water to aid her gammy liver (which has been violated by malaria)! We whisked ourselves through the sweat fest that is Mombasa and up to Malindi and Lamu.
We’re back in England on Thursday so hopefully see you all soon. We can’t believe that 4 and a half months is over and our 2 year project is finally complete and looking good. We do have a few ideas for the future of Dig Deep
