The ship left Aswan very early in the morning, on our way to our first stop for the day, the Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the crocodile god, Sobek. Awaken by the engines, a peak out the window rewarded me with a gorgeous sunrise as we left Aswan on our way to Luxor. The ancients depicted images that were supposed to be moving by pointing their clothes like this. I wish I could get my hands on the vandals who stole the upper part of his body.

The temple tells the story of thieves who were caught stealing the offerings. It says what happened to them, as well as enemies of the country. Notice the missing arms, and missing faces.

Being the temple of the crocodile god, I was surprised who ended up munching on those arms. I expected crocodiles, not a lion!

Aw! It grieves me to see all those blocks laying about. Maybe someone will try to restore more of the temple someday.
