Hi Everyone!
Forgive me for writing this now I'm home, but internet in the African countryside is hard to come by.
Right, longest journey ever! 11hours on a plane to Johanesburg and then 2 full days driving through South Africa and Botswana. We stopped in Palapye on our first night and were supposed to camp, but due to it being dark and none of us knowing how to put the tents up we all bunked on the floor in one room. A superb way to get to know everyone! We had a traditional African Braai (bbq) with delicious Botswana sausages. They wouldn't say what was in them so I assume that we wouldn't want to know!
We then continued travelling. There are lots of wild donkeys and goats which keep getting in the way of our humongus trucks! The trucks have parts of them which convert into kitchens - so we have roadside meals (as are our toilet stops!). There are trees with huge thorns on. A couple have gone right through the soles of my shoes. Y'ouch!
We finally arrived for our first night camping at a campsite called Sitatunga in Maun. Have had one cold shower since my arrival in Africa. I have a feeling staying clean is not going to happen!
Our tents are compact and easy to assemble, especially as I'm sharing with Jenna whose an ex girl guide :o)
Tarrah!
Bex
