Trying to plan how to travel from Greece to Italy, after my stay on Ios.

I've looked into catching a ferry with Superfast ferries. I'd be getting off in Piraeus after Ios and I think I have to get onto the metro and get to Patra to catch the ferry to Italy does this sound right? I'm confused about where the port is in Italy though that it takes you to, I want to get to either Venice, Florence or Rome. Is this the best and cheapest way to do it? Would it be a good idea to book a night in Athens after the ferry from Ios? Or go straight on to the next ferry from Patra? I'm really confused as to hows the best way to get over to Italy on a budget as I'm backpacking - any info would be great! Reply to this

The fastest and cheapest way to get from Athens to the cities you mention in Italy is by discount airlines like Aegean Airlines or easyJet, both for under $130 (or even less depending on the date) to Rome if you don't pay extra for such things as overweight baggage. Check several search engines (e.g., kayak, expedia, travelocity, etc.) and compare prices.

As for staying in Athens, I would strongly recommend it if you are inclined to visit the Parthenon and the National Museum, etc. However, there may be strikes and riots due to the ongoing political situation regarding the euro. Reply to this

I had a look on Kayak, its amazing! So much easier to use then any other website I've looked at. And I compared it with the other sites you mentioned which somehow brought up other cheap flights that I couldn't find on those websites without going through Kayak. I'm not stressing anymore thank you! I was thinking I'd fly from Athens to Rome, then to Barcelona then back to Venice. It seems to be the cheapest order to do it in. But does that mean I need a mutli-entry visa for Italy? I would only be staying in Rome for one week max before going to Spain, and another week and a half max when I fly back into Venice. I'd stay a few nights in Venice and then catch a train to Florence for a few nights before leaving Italy.

I'm flying into Athens from Brisbane first up before I go to Ios and have booked two nights then, so I'm hoping this will give me enough time to see what there is to see before heading into the islands. Reply to this

I'm glad you found a useful travel search site. You can also use it for hotels. For hostels I use Hostelworld.com.

As for visas, assuming you are Australian, you should be able to get a visa upon arrival at any airport in Europe. Reply to this
