Reply to this I thought I would revive this topic with a long overdue update - my plans have FINALLY become a reality and we leave for KL on August 14th to start a new life. I am leaving the finance industry in London and teaching in Malaysia and my girlfriend has landed a 2 year contract with an International School who will be paying for our whole experience :-) Pretty chuffed with how it turned out.
Some things to note:
1. telling friends and family can be a mixed bag of emotions. Some take the news exactly how you would and are nothing but happy. Others may struggle to understand the motives and the opportunity but they all should come round in the end!
2. make sure you don't get ripped off from your current job. I had to double check all of my entitlements and make sure I had not been tricked into signing anything in the past. Even then there were meetings to discuss cutting my final bonus payments.
3. Admin.
4. Lots of Admin.
5. You will not believe the amount of Admin.
I have been learning the language for 2 months now so if there are any native Malay speakers willing to practice with me that would be great. Otherwise, please feel free to get in touch if you happen to be in KL for a drink or 2. Blogs from my move and subsequent life of travel around Asia to follow.
