I decided to go for a quick look around Asia in 2011 and loved it so much I just kept on going and going
.I am currently ( Spring 2013) in Buenos Aires and have decided to stay put here for the time being , working, living and learning the language of this wonderful country Argentina. Originally from the Isle of Wight in South England I lived the last 23 years prior to travelling in Germany where my almost 22 year old son Ben still lives.
At 45 I am one of the old ones travelling around and am living proof it can be done at this age and even older . If anyone is scared about travelling alone my advice would be .. just try it and see.. I was scared to be alone and although I travel alone I am never alone, only when I want to be .
This blog is out of sync , I started blogging March 2013 backdating it to Feb 2012.One day it will be up to date ! Enjoy reading, forgive my spelling mistakes and feel free to comment.

Now Ian Hiscock is one of 2 twins from the Isle of Wight and they are or were both crazy as kids . Ian moved back to his homeland Australia around mid 80´s and Ive not seen him since But thanks to Facebook we have been in touch the last few years . We were going to meet up in Bali back in 2011 but it never happened but this time it was to be no problem A short flight from Sydney to Brisbane and I was there , Ian picked me up in his big 4x4 and he was proud of it ! The bugger has nt changed a bit since I last saw him 25 years ago and it was if it was only the other month that we had seen each other . ... read more

Theres not a lot to do around Sydney after a couple of days of doing the culture stuff except drink , so drink I did ! And what a better place in the world to drink than Aus ! It doesnt matter where you go and what type of pub it is you can just sit down and talk to anyone , well this is true in most countries around the world but Aus,NZ and USA it is just so easy and after living in Germany for so long where it is almost seen as bad manners to talk to a stranger in a pub this was a novelty for me . The guest house where I was staying was full of short term workers from all aorund the world , from Brazil to Russia and ... read more

Well , that was Asia ! Amazing continent, and I love it . so varied and mixed cultures . Before my first visit on 2011 to Borneo / Malaysia I always generalised Asia as being a united culture , how wrong I was ! I left Burma and it took me 3 days to get to Sydney , stopping in BKK and Singapor to chil out a bit ( as if I needed to chill out ! ) before the big city of Sydney. I arrived at 5am and it was freezing ! About 10 degrees compared to the 35+ where I had just come from . I had no warm clothes and it was depressing , mainly due to the tiredness and jet lag . i could nt get into my Hotel before 8 30 ... read more

Well watching the news reports today 1st May 2013 , Burma seems to be in a bad way with people getting killed and riots daily and the police just watching it all happen , once again its all about religion . I hope they get their country sorted out , it was just on the verge of opening itself back up to the world , I guess I was lucky to visit this wonderful country before all this happend. I got back to Yangon afternoon and it was mega hot I jumped into a cab to get into the city center to walk back to Aunty S. My new " Home " ! Suddenly the door opened and some Western looking guy jumped in and asked if he could share the cab , he was Russian ... read more

The new place was great as well , I never enjoyed the last place due to losing all of my body fluids but now I was 80% recovered and ready to enjoy this amazing part of the country. The beaches were amazing , just so quiet and clean , there is a polluiton problem in Asia but in Burma there is no industry to pollute the the country , the bay of Bengal is vast and nothing influences it pollution wise . Again this was a quiet hotel with the guests being mainly Burmese but a few foreigners were there to be seen which sort of dissapointed me a little, I enjoyed being the novelty up till now . The hotel restaurant was basic but the food was good , better than the last place I ... read more

This place was very basic but very charming . It is a place used by the Burmese as a resort and the small chalets were just about right for a couple , I was off course alone but it was the ideal size . The Burmese however used them to the fully capacity and it is amazing how many people you can fit into them thinkgs , I think 11 was the most I counted piling out of one chalet one morning ! I had a nice 2 days just exploring and enjoying the Bay of Bengal. I wanted to go diving but it was not possible due to some law and the only way to dive here was to go to Thailand and dive up to the Burmese border, sounded like to much like hard ... read more

This country is amazing , it really is the place that time forgot . Everywhere downtown are people sitting at tables with telephones with cables 10´s of meters long connecting them to the nearest telephone socket , people come along make a phone call and chuck a few coins in a tin then carry on , no cell phones here ( well there is one network for the extreme rich) and no telephone booths either . The vehicles are mostly all 30 years plus old and the pavements nearly non existent. No tall skyscrapers and no flashing neon lights. The men wear a sarong , which is like a wrap around skirt with Buddhist monks everywhere to be seen. Auntie S. took me for breakfast to her local favourite foodhall and we ate at 9 am a nice ... read more

Leaving Cambodia for a 2nd time was agian hard just like the first time . It was great to see my begger mates and I took them all swimming in the brothers tuc tuc , It was a great day out and cost my about 20$ to make this family happy .They all swam in the swimmingpool in their clothes which made me smile ! I declined a swimm due to the murkey looking pool water , I never botherd with all the important jabs before I set off and did nt fancy getting some nasty disease. Again they took me to the airport and again it was so nice to have this farewell . I was a bit nervous or excited about my next flight to Burma. To get to Burma was a nightmare, it ... read more

Siem Reap was an amazing experience like many other places I have been to up till now , god so many things to take in and observe , so many wonders of the world to have seen in such a short time , things that for a lot of people each one is an experience of a lifetime and this is all happening in one go to me , a constant barrage of wonders. I met a Russian archaeologist in Burma once ( another story how I met him ) and he told me then that one becomes complacent to such sights and wonders if you dont take a break and go back to reality for a bit then continue with travelling . I scoffed at this at the time but as the travelling went on ... read more

Poor planning and preparation produces piss poor performance ! That is what I had drilled into me as young soldier many many years ago and I always forget the lessons I learnt them . To get from Boracay via Manila to Cambodia is or should be easy given that Manila and Angeles and Siem Reap ( my destination ) have good airports , but ... you must always plan ahead in order to get a flight ,or better to say a cheap flight .I never did this untill the last minute and found the flights from Manila or Angeles direct to Siem Reap were mega expensive and all cheap flights booked out for up to a week in advance so I had to go via Kula Lumpa in Malasyia which was cheap as chips but annoying ... read more
