A hugely popular past time for travellers - will it still be as popular after the news of the cord snapping in Vics Falls recently?

I'm thinking of using <snip> to rent a vacation rental for an adventure vacation...bungee jumping and all. Great idea, great way to spend a vacation.

Reply to this This is the one excuse we have always made for not wanting to do a bungee jump, everyone has always said but the cord won't snap etc but that would be a worst fear. It definitely won't put adrenaline junkies off the activity but now there is absolutely no doubt that either of us would do a bungee jump!
Reply to this Not to knock Zambia (and Africa in general), but it wouldn't be the first place on my list to trust safety standards. Go to NZ and jump there and have a great time.

Reply to this A friend of mine forwarded me this link a couple of days ago and I couldn't believe it..... Truly shocking.
He went to this bungy when he was in Africa but didn't do it (as he did the Nevis with us in NZ a few years ago) but he said one of the girls who was with him did it and cut up her ankle pretty bad on the harness.... So I definitely wouldn't do it there.
However, I would bungy all day long in NZ... Loved it and although it's an unnecessary risk, it's tiny so doesn't concern me. The risk involved with car travel is waaaaay higher, but it doesn't stop me from getting in a car...
Reply to this Bungee Jumping is an activity that involves jumping from a tall structure while connected to a large elastic cord. The tall structure is usually a fixed object, such as a building, bridge or crane; but it is also possible to jump from a movable object, such as a hot-air-balloon or helicopter, that has the ability to hover above the ground.
The thrill comes as much from the free-falling as from the rebounds.
When the person jumps, the cord stretches and the jumper flies upwards again as the cord recoils, and continues to oscillate up and down until all the energy is dissipated.

Reply to this Nikki and I were in shock when we watched the video.
I can't even imagine how much of a traumatic experience that must have been and I can imagine she'll be having flash backs for quite some time but then there is another part of me that thinks differently.
I'm not saying for one minute that I would ever want something like that to happen to me but, if you're a positive person like me, I think it could give someone a real appreciation for life.
I would be so grateful to be alive I think it would spur me on to do everything I want to do on my bucket list even more than I would normally and call me what you wish but imagine the blog you'd be able to write about it.
