Don't be a fool. Stay home, get a job, feed your family, love your wife, love your children, love your grandchildren, and stop dreaming about the days gone past. You're having a midlife crisis, don't let that cloud your judgement. Be rational and act your age. Take two weeks vacation with your wife every year. You may hate reading what I have to say but you know it's the right thing to do, so do it. Reply to this

Humm..... Whats up with the last comment? For a person that looks like he likes to get around why would you offer such absolute narrow minded advice? I think that a real midlife crisis is when you are willing to sit around day after day watching CNN and the travel channel and be content with that. A better person is a person well traveled as far as I am concerned. Why is it that everyone has to do everything the way it should be and this is according to who? The average person that wouldn't travel outside their comfort zone? Life is short and the older you get the shorter it gets. Dreams are meant for motivation, inspiration and change. No one has said he should be rash but being a member of this site I would think that encouraging advice on traveling is what he really needs to make a good decision for himself. Still waiting to hear about any updates! Reply to this

Tony... The answer is YES!!! Just do it.

I have wanted to travel ever since I was a little girl. Last year my sister, who is also my best friend, moved to Mexico. I hated my job and was feeling completely stuck in life. Soooo I Quit and then I went on a 4 month backpacking trip. It has been the best decission I have ever made in my life! Yes I was scared about not having a job or alot of money to do it but I had the oportunity staring me in the face and I was not going to let it pass me by.
I try to always stick with one thing in my life, its common, you have probably heard it before, but it is a good rule to live by. NO Regrets, EVER! If you will regret not going, not taking the oportunity you have in front of you then you Must do it! If you think that you will build a resentment to you wife because you don't go then you Must do it! Who knows maybe you will go and when you get back things will spark between you again since you had the chance to fufill your dream and would no longer feel like you were being held back, Hopefully she will be able to understand this pull in you and let her know that you will support her in her dreams too. It is impossible to go on a big backpacking trip and not change and learn more about yourself as you are experiancing the rest of the world.
If you are not willing to quit a job to do it then now is your chance, you don't have a job holding you back. Life will still be there when you get back.
Also it is impossible to make other people happy if you yourself are not happy in life. If this is your dream and if this is what will make you happy then I say Do It!

I have only been home from my trip for a month so if you have any questions let me know, its all still fresh in my brain! Also just reading a few people who have responded before me: Shane says, go to Australia first. Personally I would rather end there. I traveled through the UK, then southern Africa, then North Africa/ Middle East, then to EU countries, then back to northern Africa. We ended in Morocco. And ended up only staying 2 of the orriginal 10 days planned there. It was hard for us to end a long trip in an unfriendly enviroment after spending time in EU countries.
Also You dont have to give up everything. You can if you want to but you dont have to. Just make sure you can make payments on anything you want to keep. Also You absolutly do not have to be rich! I am FAR from rich if we are talking about money, now if we talk happiness and dream fufillment and experiances Im one of the wealtiest people on the planet! Fear holds us back. Make the choice to let go! We have dreams to reach them! Not to think about them our whole lives feeling sad that we never got to do it! Know with everything in you that it will turn out ok and it will!
Im happy that you have decided to do it, not knowing the exact path or having a set plan is part of the adventure! Enjoy every moment and email me if you have any questions! Good luck! Reply to this
