Hi guys . I want to travel from London to Istanbul by train . I have a couple of queries.
1} Do we need Visa for every country we traverse ? Or do we need visa for only those stations we change trains ? I was hoping having only UK and Turkey Visa would be enough and the rest just show the tickets ? {Although I am sure I would need a ticket if I wanted to explore the place where I am changing trains }
2} Has anyone used Euro Rail pass ? Is it worth ?
Reply to this Hi Ragh,
Visa requirements depend on where you're from, and also which route you're taking. Usually in Europe you don't need visas for stays in a country of less than 30 days at least, so you'd be fine passing through. You will need your passport - once you leave the EU zone there are passport checks at border stations (e.g. between Bulgaria and Turkey).
Rail pass depends on how old you are (and your route again). If you're under 26 it may be worth it. If you're over 26 then probably not.
Tell us about your route and citizenship and I'll be able to tell more...

Thank you for the reply
I am a 23 year old Indian National. I have a UK visa .
I want to Travel in the route - Paris , Munich , Vienna , Budapest , Bucharest , Istanbul . I want to spend a couple of days each in Linz , Vienna and Budapest . And of course in Istanbul .
Reply to this Okay - as an Indian national you do seem to need a visa to travel in Europe, but I'm not sure whether your UK visa will permit travel within the EU or not.
Basically when dealing with visa requirements you treat the section from France to the Bulgarian-Turkish border as one country, as all of this is part of the Schengen agreement, so you would only need one visa for this section.
For Turkey you definitely need a separate visa.
If I were you I would go to the Indian embassy in London and ask about the EU bit, they will know for sure.
Schengen visas are valid for 90 days, so you'll have no problem seeing all those places.
