Oh my god the whole backpacking like a peasant thing was so agrivating, if i was by a beautiful beach like that but had next to no money i would probably end up camping it out on the sand! lol Mell she is just the most agrivating person ever, like pretty much all she has done is complain and moan.. not a good travelling companion, on the 2nd episode they were in this really nice place (can't quite remember the name) and one of the girls wanted to see this temple which looked amazing, i wana go there soon, and the blondie just kinda made it about her and made the temple like lowest priority which was silly lol but all the hating aside i did give her a chance in the first episode.. it didnt work lol

as for who's going to win I would definately put my money on either nathan or the american, they seem like the strongest characters in there at the mo.

Mell did you try going on the channel 4 website? thats where i watch it because im always at work when its on Reply to this

Unfortunately, the clip on the Channel 4 website wont play for me either because I am in Germany. 😞 But thanks for the suggestion anyway, Greg. 😊 Reply to this

I do think these people will come out of it with something other than £10k prize money and 15 mins of fame.

Maybe this is the sort of thing that will come back to haunt them. The blonde girl might be a completely different type of person 10 years from now, but this documentary wont let anyone forget what she used to be like.

I would really hate to have a TV show in existance that recorded every aspect of a situation where I got along with nobody and because of inexperience and imaturity I handled nothing and nobody well.

I haven't got the impression from the blogs and forums that I read that this is a diifficult thing to do but maybe I am wrong.

It can sometimes be difficult, when language barriers, costs, tiredness, tummy bugs, taking others into account... come into play. It would be easy though, if you could call an English speaking driver to come and pick you up and take you where you want to go in an air conditioned car. But, dont get me wrong, the difficulties experienced will likely be rose tinted when you remember them. At least that is how it is for me, and I feel totally nostalgic, when I go back to some places, where if I was honest about it were not easy to be in first time I was there.

Mell, you asked would I do this type of thing. I would if there was no camera hehe.

LOL Me too! I sometimes think I am not bubbly and active enough to keep millions of viewers amused by watching me on TV, and I dont think I care either. Reply to this

Do the people in the doccumentary all have to do things together or can they do them separately and then meet up later for a drink or something? I think having no space would start to bug me after a while, but maybe it wouldnt have bugged me so much when I was 20 Reply to this

Hey all,

I actually managed to catch the last episode of this on T4 at the weekend as I was looking for something to run in the background and then sat down and watched it.

On the info page it said that 'a group of inexperienced backpackers make their way to Bali with no guidebooks or map' I thought this sounded like an awesome concept as I imagined them starting in Bangkok or some other major hub (KL or Singapore). It turns out they only had to go from Solo in Java to Bali, making sure they stopped at Bromo. Not much of a challenge IMO but hey I'm 'experienced' at this type of travel and my geography knowledge is pretty exceptional.

Anyway, I though it represented Indonesia well... Bromo is incredible at sunrise and looking into the active volcano was awesome (although again they made it look hard by riding horses to it when you can just walk there in ten minutes).

I laughed so hard when they got scammed with the bus/ferry combo tickets... Oldest trick in the book and when you get irate about being scammed all of a sudden no one speaks any english!

It made Kuta look really Tacky and fun (which IMO it is), so hopefully in the next episode they cover the other sides of Bali as we really enjoyed ourselves there and my folks are going in a few months so I want them to see what they're getting themselves in for!

Oh, and yes they obviously choos really annoying people to do these things for good TV... That blonde girl is an idiot. 😊 Reply to this

I was also unfortunate enough to catch this program. At first it seemed like a fantastic idea, following young backpackers around the globe with a camara, and watching how they would cope with the every day hassles and hard bartering of the Indonesians. but then sadly the girls of the show and channel four made to me what seemed inexcusable errors when entering temples(borobudur and prambanan) with hardly any close on. Also i was finding it increasingly embarssing as an English man that they then would automatically presume that everybody in Indonesia talked English and made no effort to even say thank you in the native tounge. Ultimate travellers? i think not. Reply to this

I think the title ultimate traveller is meant to be slightly ironic, or at least it should be. Reply to this

This weeks episode was interesting, in that I believe I was proved right with regards to the careful editing of the programme. Suddenly 'blondie' is lovely and no longer behaving like a brat and the other girls are now being made out to be the 'bitches'. Its very typical of these shows and I do feel a bit for whoever gets made a fool of with their editing. Don't get me wrong, 'blondie' did say the things they showed and she did act the way they showed but i'm guessing it was maybe the only 'moan' she made that day.

On a slightly different note, Mell mentioned in this thread about a documentry called 'A Map For Saturday'. I watched it at the weekend. It was really good! but I was in disbelief when it was mentioned in the film that Laos is not pronounced how I have been pronounicng it for years and I was a tad embarrassed. Although checking this on the net there seems to be a bit of disagreement to the 'right' way. So the S is silent....... I wish there was a red face smiley. Reply to this

I always thought it was pronounced with a silent S, but i was talking to a guy from Laos in Luang Prabang and he kept pronouncing it with the S. I still pronounce it without the S though. Reply to this
