We are two girls who are travelig from Beijing - Xi'an - Lasa, and then over to India. Have not desided on what to do when we are in India yet, but we will keep to the northern part of the country. Is it possible to get from Lhasa to India, overland or by plane? And what kind of permits or visas do I need?
We are planning on traveling for a month in the end of august/beginning of september 10. How much money do we need? Have a maximum budget of 4000 £.
Reply to this Hello Celine 😊
I am moving this to the Overland and Sea Forum, where it will hopefully get replies.

Reply to this Take a flight to Kathmandu, bus to Birgunj, Nepal and then a train to Patna, linking with a train to Delhi if you want to go cheap.
If you want to be safe, just take a flight - backpacking through Nepal and India is incredibly unsafe.
Reply to this There are 0 foreigners, the area is majority illeterate, uneducated; you are two foreigners, and you'll be in an isolated area.
One example: A few months ago, the Indian government tried to change the stops that the trains services, in Bihar, they simply set fire to two trains that didn't stop at the particular stations in order to threaten the government to change their plans.
If you feel you must do it, you need to bring a local tourist guide with you - else, you are opening the door for problems.
I lived in india for two years, my husband is from this place. I ran into problems in Nepal in his hometown due to the colour of my skin , and wouldn't consider going by train through this place.
Reply to this Thanks for the replies, I have, after reading this and other blogs, decided to only travel in China since we dont have much travel experience yet😉
