Andaman Islands by sea from Thailand - possible anyone????

Looking for some info and help

Anyone out there know if it is possible to travel by sea, from Thailand to the Andaman Islands? Even better, have any of you out there actually done it?

Hi,

They have diving liveaboard who are doing it, but I haven't seen commercial vessel doing it. I know that Port Blair is closer from Bangkok than Phuket is...and the only easy to get to there is to fly to Chennai, than on backtrack to Port Blair...long way...
