Have you seen any? If so, where? Are you planning to see any? Where?

I heard on the news that it was rather cloudy and even rained in some parts of China, so this affected the viewing of the eclipse. I wonder if it was still a good view though.

I've never seen anything cool like that before. The coolest thing I've seen would probably be shooting stars. Reply to this

Where did you see the shooting stars SQM? I saw them north of Toronto, Canada one year. Reply to this

I think shooting stars are more common than most people think. As long as it's really dark, you're more than likely to see them. I actually saw them when I was at school in London, Ontario. My boyfriend and I went to look at stars and then we randomly saw shooting stars! It was really nice and surprising. We saw at least eight that night.
When I was really young, there was supposed to be a lot of shooting stars one night , so my dad and I planned to wake up at 1 am to go see the stars. But we didn't see any. That was rather disappointing, but I guess it may have also been because it was hard to find a part of the city that didn't have light pollution. It's easier to find that when you're in a town like London. Reply to this

Yeah, we took the subway as far out of the city as it goes in order to see the stars better. The city lights also make it more difficult to see them, so a dark remote place is best. Reply to this

You definitely need to get outta the city if you want to see a decent shooting star show!

Best places I've seen them are in the Sahara desert and on the beach in Crete, you'd see one every 5 minutes then. When I was a kid though Dad used to sit out in the garden with me and show me the shooting stars, but then there house is in a very small town so not much light pollution.

Even though they're common I still get excited every time I see them! Something else I'd really like to see one day is the northern lights...but that would involve heading north on my travels and at the moment all plans are south. Reply to this

Did anyone see any shooting stars last night? Apparently last night and tonight are the optimum nights to see them.

It was too cloudy here last night, but hopefully tonight will be clearer. 😊 Reply to this

5.30PM, and still there is a layer of cloud over most of the sky. The weather report promised it will be clear in the evening, so hopefully those clouds will move on. My daughter is pretty excited about the prospect of seeing shooting stars. Reply to this

I had never seen shooting stars until last year, maybe I just hadn't looked for them! However I was out on the Whitsunday Islands in Australia and saw LOADS of them & even the milkyway! Cool experience and my first one was actually a comet so even better!

I would love to see the Northern Lights! :-) Reply to this

We say a few, but just about. There are too many street lights and lights from the appartments for a really good show.

Anyone have better luck?

Where are you Frankwah?

No, my daughter hasnt seen the shooting stars before. She is in bed now, so seeing more will have to wait for some time in the future. Reply to this

UK - it's raining now so think I'll use that as an excuse for an early night. I do remember as a kid being as excited about staying up late as I was about actually seeing the stars! Hopefully someone's getting to see them. Reply to this

The last couple of nights were supposed to be decent for seeing the Perseid meteor showers. The best time to check it out here in the States is just before dawn, so we haven't seen them. Tried to go out one night around two a.m. but no luck. I have seen shooting stars before though when I was out west in the desert, again, here in the usa. I would love to see a display like the Perseid or Leonid meteor shower. Reply to this

The shooting stars I saw in Canada were spectacular and there were lots of them. I dont know much about astrology, but maybe they were the Perseid meteor showers or something like that. The guy who showed them to me was a journalist for a science magazine, so he likely knew where to find the best things to look at.

Stayed up late on Wednesday night to watch the Perseids! From here in Southern Alberta, Canada, it was pretty spectacular! Was out from midnight til just past 1AM, and even though it was cloudy and we could only see parts of the sky at a time we saw I would say 30+ shooting stars. Some were huge and very bright and shot across more than half the sky! Excellent show. Reply to this

They seem like the ones I saw, when I was in Canada.

Did anyone in Europe see anything like that, or is does one need to be someplace else to see it? Reply to this

My boyfriend was camping in the middle of nowhere(well around a KM from a small village) in Germany on the shooting stars nights. He said he saw lots of them. I suppose, that is worth putting up with the 1 inch long honets that were pestering him for.

I just want to point out as nicely as possible that watching meteor showers/shooting stars is not astrology but rather, astronomy. Huge difference. Easy mistake for the layperson 😉 Reply to this
