How long is a good vacation? I was thinking a week\'ish is good enough. So, how long would your ideal vacation... :p i\'m not looking for any retirement plans...

And where is the ultimate chill out destination in your mind? Reply to this

I think a month is ideal. Long enough but not so long that travel burnout to takes hold.

For a chill out destination, I would go for south east Asia.

It does depend on the individual, but for me - someone who travels on their own and not on any tours - the 50 day mark is my limit before "cultural fatigue" hits me. If I go past 2 months, then my enjoyment level can really drop.

Likewise, the minimum holiday I would take is always 4 weeks, as anything less doesn't give me that feeling of being away. My optimum is therefore around the 6-7 week mark.

For a chillout destination - I would second South East Asia, but also add East Africa. Reply to this

Having said the above, we dont always get all of what we want. I will be spending just 9 days in India in May. I would prefer if it was a month, but 9 days is also a treat for me. A bit like being given one piece of candy, instead of the whole bag. It tastes fantastic and leaves me wanting more. Reply to this

India in May is quite hot but yeah, as rightly said when you're on an assignment that takes up a lot of your space, even a two day break seems like Heaven. Ten days of break is perfect bcoz you get two weekends along with an entire week to relax. I'd also vote for South East Asia! Reply to this

Yeah, I heard it will be hot. But the air tickets to get there are such a good price at that time..... 😊 I will be in Mumbai, so I expect it wont be as uncomfortable as around Delhi.

I also prefer short breaks throughout the year than extended vacation. It helps break the monotony of the daily grind.

Day trips, long weekend getaways and few weeks holiday here and there during school breaks better suit our lifestyle.

I haven't been on a long vacation (for months on end) and curious to experience how it feels like...maybe someday down the track or on our retirement perhaps ?

The ideal chill-out destinations are rainforests and white sandy beaches for me.

cheers ! 😊

Depends on how far away it is. If it is the local trip I plan to take in July - Yellowstone National Park - a week is good. But if it is farther away - say Europe, I would want at least a month. Reply to this

For a good vacation, I think the activities during the holiday make a huge difference. If I'm just sitting on a beach getting burnt and just watching the ocean (which I love to do) then about a week and I'm good to get back to the daily grind. However, doing cultural events, museums, tours, etc. means that I need way longer than a week, preferrably about 6 weeks. And of course any mixture in between! Reply to this
