Shortlist candidates for the job of caretaker of Hamilton Island have been decided, and will be made public on 3 March.
Did any TravelBloggers apply? What would you nominate as the best job in the world/best place to work?
They are willing to pay $150,000 a year for someone to work 12 hours a day for six months while carrying out such duties as feeding turtles, watching whales and picking up the island's post.

There were almost 35,000 video applications, but the incredible interest the job campaign inspired left some out in the cold.

There have been a lot of first time posters on TravelBlog posting links to videos for us to watch, to help them win this competition. I removed them, because there were so many. Dont know if there are any established members who entered the competition. If you are an established blogger on this site and you entered the competition then post the link to your video here on this thread if that will help you win. 😊
Reply to this i didnt apply, thought about it but opted not to... my friend from high school who lives in Hawaii did though...

Is (s)he on the shortlist?
Reply to this The short-list candidates might be under confidentiality contracts - we'll all know in a few days ;-)
I don't know if I could narrow 'best job in the world' down to just one ;-)

I have seen some cool caretaker ones. But they would involve having a few years at least to spare. They are in nice locations but pay not so well, but probably enough to live on in those places.
Reply to this not sure if he did or didnt
Let us know if he wins and if he does, then maybe he will come on here and tell us about it and show photos if he has time. 😊
Reply to this The odds would have been about 1 in 35,000 when applications closed, and 1 in 50 for shortlist candidates.
Reply to this Well, let us know if congratulations are due to them when the winner has been chosen. 😊
Reply to this I gave this serious thought, and had my spiel almost figured, but decided against it. The quality of the better videos on the site were far greater than my abilities, and it looked as if the better videos had a lot of production quality - such as graphics and snappy editing.
Reply to this I tried to apply, but it was on the first or second day, and the site had crashed due to all the traffic. So I didn't bother....
Reply to this I applied and I have been using travelblog for 4 years now. However, I haven't heard back from Tourism Queensland so I'm assuming I have been unsuccessful. Oh well 😊
Reply to this Several of my friends applied - which is now splitting my loyalties 😉 - so I won't vote!
I'm amazed at what a stroke of marketing genius this has been by the Queensland tourism board - $150,000 AUD, probably all in $500,000 AUD - and they're been on the front page of news papers, websites, talked about in forums 😊 - a masterpiece not just restricting it too Australians.
If you have a video on the website - does that mean you're short listed? - 3 friends have so far...
Reply to this And the publicity about hopefuls not being able to enter because the site crashed....."any publicity is good publicity".
Reply to this All videos are currently available on the site, which means the entries have been accepted.
The 50 shortlisted videos and names will be announced on 2 March at 11:59pm UTC/GMT.
Reply to this The voting is now for the one wildcard entry to get into the final 11.
Wonder if the site manages the number of hits of people wanting to know the shortlist ;-)
Reply to this Amazing publicity. Somehow always when I hear about this job, it reminds me of the Taco Liberty Bell. Genius!
