Horse Trekking Adevntures in remote destinations- can anyone recomend somewhwere?

Can anyone recommend a horse trekking company or a really good remote destination to do some horse trekking? I’m very keen to do an exciting trip away and incorporate some top level riding and wondered if any travel bloggers out there could suggest anything?

I’ve come across a few companies that are either based in the States/ UK that offer horse trekking adventures worldwide. Two trips they offered were very appealing: one through the Jordanian desert and visiting Petra (I’m a big Indiana fan!) and the other across Mongolia. The only thing holding me back is I’ve never been keen on organised travel per say. I know sometimes you have to, such as climbing Machu Picchu etc, but I tend to think these ‘middle men’ make an awful lot of profit for something which probably only costs a couple hundred quid anyway! Their process were well over a grand for a ten day trip and this doesn’t even include flights. What I’d love to do is head out to somewhere exciting and organise it when I’m there with the locals. Has anyone done this before? Or does anyone know of a really great place for trekking that could possibly go to and organise when I’m there? Any thoughts are most welcome. Thanks! x

Hello Sarah 😊

In Kyrgyzstan there were guides that take people on horse treks. I dont think they can be booked from outside Kyrgyzstan, but in Kyrgyzstan there are lots of CBT(Community Based Tourism) offices throughout the coutnry that can easily arrange it for you once you get there.

Hi Mel,

Thanks so much for your quick response. Heard a lot of wonderful things about Kyrgyzstan and great to know treks can be organised when you're there. I will try and get in touch with one of the CBT's to see if they offer extended treks (i.e. for a week or more) as that's what I'm really after. So is Kyrgyzstan wonderful? The people look so friendly in the photographs I’ve seen.

Thanks again!

The nicest part of Kyrgyzstan is that the nature is so pure and largely unspoilt.

I had mixed experiences with the people. Some were friendly while others were more than a little aggressive. My latest blog is about Kyrgyzstan. I put some of the expereinces I had with people in it.

One major plus for Kyrgyzstan, unlike the other Central Asian countries, is that citizens of many countries can get a visa on arrival at the airport.

Another plus is that you can stay in peoples homes and yurts for 8 Euros per night including breakfast. The CBT offices also arrange the homestays. Reply to this

Tupiza ,Sth of the Uyuni salt lakes ,in Bolivia has some great treks.I was in Primary School when the Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid movie 1st came out so spent many happy times pretending to be butch or Sundance.
This is what made Tupiza so exciting for me ,following the last week in the lives of these men ,seeing their graves and visiting villages that haven't changed since these men visited them in 1908.I did it all by 4*4 but many people do it by horse. Reply to this

We did Tupiza in Bolivia as well. We did it in mid 2008. To be honest we only did a 3hr trek, but you can arrange allsorts. It's AWESOME scenery! I wrote about it on my blog if you want to read a little bit about it! Good luck. Reply to this
