Your current passport

How many visas are in it ? Which countries are they for? When was it issued? Have you ever run out of pages in your passport?

Hi,

I do a new passport every 15 months...the game is to save every single space as possible from the first day. This one will be fun...special stamp from Galapagos as well as Antartica....my son is 8, I'm just renewing is passport...not a single page left...in 18 months...2008 was a fun year! Reply to this

I'm dum and don't even understand what a visa is....but when I got my passport a few years ago, my picture also turned out HORRIBLE. I looked about 30 years older than I already am!

It was our first trip to Europe. We were just going to Italy, but since we were at Lake Maggiorre at the beginning of our trip, we decided to drive north along the lake to Switzerland. When we came to the border stop, the little man just looked at our passports and waved us on. I asked him to stamp it and he said "no!" -- I pleaded with him, and he finally did though he wasn't happy about it! Reply to this

Hi Yolanda,

Welcome to TravelBlog.

Visas are like the special 'permission' you often need to enter a foreign country. Sometimes countries have reciprocal visa agreements meaning the citizens of the two countries don't need a visa to enter the other country, or get one automatically on arrival.

Usually you will only get a stamp when first entering the European Union (EU), moving between other EU countries is much easier. Reply to this

I've actually just now filled my passport. I have one student visa (italy), one work visa (china), and stamps from italy, portugal, spain, france, germany, canada, mexico, costa rica, england, china, zambia, namibia, botswana, greece, and my favorite so far... I was in Zimbabwe during the civil war...
I booked at least have of my travels through because they have great travel vouchers. I think the one to Greece I won on for Free!

I have two passports, Irish & British. I travelled last year completely on my Irish passport which is looking pretty cool. My Favourite stamp is Macchu Picchu. And possible OZ as I nearly didn't get in!!

I am now travelling on my British passport as I am working & Visa requires it, planning on filling it too.

We asked the immigration officers in most places to stamp a particular page and all were completely ok with it.....I think they just thought we were Geeks!!!!! As if!? It possibly helped that we had learned how to say hello & please in all the languages before we asked!!!

It's funny how proud we've become of our passports, a feeling that is simply lost on family.......When I got home I carried it everywhere & shared at every opportunity! Now that is sad!!!😊 I like the smilies!

Country of passport: UK and AU

My British passport has 18 blank pages left, simply due to the fact that most of the countries I'd used it in were European countries - therefore, no stamp required. Canada and the US had a habit of stamping on a random page. However, Malaysia was kind enough to stamp arrival and departure on the same page.

My Australian passport only has two stamps - one American and one Canadian (both on separate pages) - and a full-page US visa.

My current passport is a few years old and I just had pages added because when I get business visas for Cambodia and Viet Nam, they take up a whole page, then get stamped in and out on the opposite page. In fact, my passport is with a visa service right now, so from memory:

Great Britain
France
Italy
Tunisia
Viet Nam
Cambodia
Mexico
US
Canada
Maybe Belize and Honduras

Next month, Thailand
Next summer, perhaps Estonia, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, Germany

My previous passport had
US
Egypt
Israel
Great Britain
France
Jamaica

I have just come back from a few weeks in India and a couple of days in Turkey. I now have 3 fewer blank pages in my passport. The visa and stamps for India take up 2 pages. The visa and stamps for Turkey take up a whole page. I am surprised that I need a visa for Turkey at all. Reply to this

I'm in the process of applying for a British passport and was struggling to decide between passport sizes. I plan to travel Europe and work for at least 12 months. Will 36 pages be enough you think? How many stamps usually go on one page? Reply to this

Oh, and I don't think I'll have to worry about getting Visa's for any of the countries I'm interested in because you can travel Europe ok on a British passport right? And I also have an Aussie passport so I guess if I run out of pages I can use that one true? Reply to this

You shouldn't have any problems with a 36-page British passport if you're just using it in Europe. However, not all EU countries are part of the Schengen Treaty, and vice versa. As for your Aussie passport, check up on visa requirements. You can't always just switch to a different passport if you run out of pages.

EDIT: For your British passport, you won't have to worry about visas for most European countries (I missed that part of your post). I assume you'll be doing a lot of travel by train. A good website is Seat61. It is UK-centric, but it's extremely useful nonetheless. And it will mention whether a visa is required or not.

Thanks so much for the links callufrax! I'm a little confused but that treaty though. So even though Britain isn't part of the treaty I can still travel most of Europe without a visa yeah? Reply to this

Correct. 😊 Apart from being part of the EU, the UK also have treaties with many non-EU countries. With those, you'll just have to show your passport (and probably have it stamped).

Because the UK isn't part of the Schengen agreement, there are still border checks, unless you're coming from, or to, Ireland. The Republic of Ireland (which is also not part of the Schengen agreement) and the UK are part of a common travel area, meaning no passport controls between the two countries.

I was born there, so have that advantage as well. But living there became too expensive after a while. 😊

The regular sized ones have always been enough for me. But if you are planning some major worldwide travel in the next 10 years, I would get the bigger one. Reply to this
